I’m 25 years old and I’ve been singing professionally for many years. It all started for me when I was 2 or so in my hometown church. Ever since, I have continued to indulge in my passion for music.
I was born in Gander, NFLD and I moved around a lot as a kid. We first moved to Malton, ON when I was 10 or so and then to Brampton, ON, where I attended high school at Bramalea Secondary School. In my school years, I always participated in the Choir.
At 16, I signed to an Indie Label and released my first country music single. I toured with a local agency which allowed me to sing in theatres, malls and festivals.
At 19, I joined my very first band. We played the bar/club circuit around Ontario for four years playing a mix of country, top 40, rock, R’n B and retro.
When I turned 23, I realized I wanted to be more than just a club singer. I was living with my parents in my hometown of Hare Bay, NFLD when I knew I needed to take the next step. For 4 years, my parents tried to talk me into auditioning for the Idol show. I was not about to give up on years of paying my dues. My parents and friends understood my feelings but still persuaded me into auditioning. I gave in. I thought, what do I have to lose?
On April 4th, 2007 my life had completely changed. I auditioned in St. John’s and received a gold ticket to proceed to the top 100 of the Idol show. I was surprisingly feeling really good about what I had accomplished. I went into the top 100 and really tried to put my all into what I was performing. This gained me a spot in the top 22 and later to Season’s 5 Top 10 of Canadian Idol with a final spot at the top 6.
I have to say, after being so bias about this show, being on it completely changed my perspective. I’m so appreciative that I had such an amazing opportunity to have my voice heard on one of the biggest shows in television. I strongly suggest to anyone who is trying to pursue their dreams of music to at least audition. It has changed my life and has taught me so much about the music industry.
As of right now, I have recently been signed to Ron Kitchener’s management company, RGK Entertainment Group, and Open Road Recordings. I have been flying back and forth to co-write in Nashville and work on getting the songs together for my debut album! I also have a TV show debuting July 20th on CMT Canada called “The Tara Diaries” which follows me around on my little adventures in the music industry in Toronto and Nashville. There will be a lot of participation from my fans as they help me choose the idea for my next music video and even have the chance to put a song written by a lucky fan on my album
