In the past few years, Charleston has experienced a creative and economic renaissance through local contributions to the arts, cuisine, F&B, nightlife, business, and technology. Thanks to this progress, Charleston is no longer just a city with a rich history – it is a haven for cultural trailblazers. Case-in-point: Brave Baby, a leader in the local indie pop music scene. Brave Baby made their debut in 2013 with their first album Forty Bells. Mixing pop sensibility with their Holy City locale, the band created a sound all their own. Now they are back with their highly anticipated sophomore album Electric Friends. While retaining their trademark sound, the album represents a leap forward for the band, which continues to forge the Charleston indie pop sound. It was written, recorded, and produced at various coastal locations throughout the Carolinas, creating a sound that could only come from a band that calls Charleston home. This deep connection with the city and local fans is the impetus for the name Electric Friends, which the band is pre-releasing exclusively to their hometown fans who have supported them along the way. Brave Baby is precisely the type of original talent that BACE League of Charleston is committed to fostering. Promoting the motto “Keep Talented People Here,” BACE is a non-profit association dedicated to organizing local residents who want to see city officials embrace and cultivate the Charleston renaissance. For May 9, BACE has connected local F&B businesses, artists, and musicians for this can’t-miss concert event, which will include an on-site voter registration drive. This night also celebrates the local F&B community, which is sponsoring the event along with other along with other pro-renaissance businesses as “BACE Patrons.” So far, BACE and Brave Baby have a lot of Patrons to thank: Recovery Room, The Rarebit, Charleston City Paper, Holy City Brewery, Warehouse, Prohibition, The Royal American, Proof, Pabst Blue Ribbon, King Dusko, Cocktail Bandits, Hearts & Plugs, HoM, Palace Hotel, Mac’s Place, Bay Street Biergarten, Charleston Rickshaw Co., DIG South, Artist & Craftsman (stage design), Cathead Vodka, and Gumbo Jockey. With each new Patron, the night’s potential grows: visit www.BACEchs.org for Patron info. Proceeds from the concert will go towards: producing a high-quality event at an affordable ticket price; BACE funding; CHARM (a local non-profit providing for healthcare needs of working musicians); and a second local charity, TBA.
