Bio
The brainchild of Dan Monceaux and Emma Sterling, Supermarket was born to satisfy a need for deep sensory stimulation. Fusing original electronic beats with rich visuals has been Supermarket's shtick since 2007, and just like the name suggests, their shelves are stacked with diverse range of audio-visual approaches. Their live show has toured in the USA and Canada and their music has made in onto college and community radio at home in Australia and abroad. The track 'Urban Spice' has featured on Depth Charge and Sound of Style compilations, and their debut DVD-EP is out now. The dedicated duo have recently been preparing to spend some long overdue studio time preparing their debut audio-visual album, slated for independent release in 2010.
About
IN BRIEF:
Supermarket is an experimental dose of original electronic music and imagery, delivered live with equal emphasis. Breakbeats of varying tempo ranging from dub and glitch through to dancehall and drum n' bass are met with video, animated and celluloid imagery ranging from the abstract to sampled and remixed.

While Dan jams out to sequenced beats and collected samples on his retro analogue synthesizers, Em spends her time shooting and cutting visual material- everything from found footage to original celluloid shot in vintage cameras- scratched, manipulated and projected. The end result is Supermarket, a performed fusion of electronic breakbeats and experimental cinema. With beats ranging from dub through to dancehall and drum ‘n' bass, the instrumental arrangements seek to inspire the imagination and create a timeless sound complemented by tightly edited, interpretive visuals. Drawing from Dan's roots in old-school funk (leader of Dagman Allstars 1998-2001) and inspired by more recent luminaries such as LTJ Bukem, Adam F, DJ Shadow and London Elektricity, the Supermarket experience strives to be food for the soul and a feast for the senses. Regular faces on the club and arts circuits in South Australia , the Supermarket team's live audio-visual show launched on November 16, 2007 in Buffalo, New York after a month long artists' residency there. Tour dates followed in Ontario (Canada), New York , Missouri and Texas. Following over sixty international screenings of prior experimental film work, the music video for ‘Puffinaway' screened on Rage (national Australian free-to-air MTV style program) and various videos have screened at film festivals in several countries. These include Cravefest, Canada (where 'Puffinaway' was a finalist in the electronic/dance/world music category) Optika (Spain), Pantheon Experimental (Cyprus), Open APPerture (USA), Bearded Child (USA), Squeaky Wheel's Outdoor Animation Festival (USA), Animation Block Party (NYC), and Videofestival Bochum (Germany). The pair will be performing around Australia in 2008 after further tourdates in Canada and the USA. The pair have also recently presented at the International Symposium of Electronic Arts held in Singapore.
