"The only people for me are the mad ones." So goes the quote Ajo lives by, famously written by literary iconoclast, Jack Kerouac. 'Bama-born and Chicago-bred, Ajo has lived a mad existence of her own, getting her start in music by making up raps and teaching TLC choreo in the schoolyard. By 2007 she was turf war-ing with the local EMT for practice space, and in 2008, met her mentor, Christine Correa - a 5 foot dynamo from India who taught her about Jazz. In the four years that followed, Ajo evolved from a once talent - show-dropout into dynamic songstress who has opened for the likes of Melvin Van Peebles. A highly-decorated poet, Ajo aims to infuse a confessional style of writing into her musical works, taking cues from other greats ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Tracy Chapman. She has performed at Gibson Showroom, Pratt Institute, The Paper Box, and on Nov 1st will be at the Tinderbox Festival, an annual showcase of established & emerging female-fronted bands. You can find out more about Ajo @ www.facebook.com/foreverajo. Stephanie Demar is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Miami Florida but now living in New York City. She studied music at Indiana University, where she not only gained a local following but won Miss Talent at the Hoosier Sweetheart competition. She lived and worked in London after graduation, performing at The Corner Shop - still her favorite gig to date. Her love of singing and writing songs began at 7 years old when she and her best friend formed a girl group called The Dynamic Duo; two years later, she knew she wanted to be a performer after seeing Les Miserables on Broadway. Her eclectic pop, folk, alternative vibe is heavily influenced by artists such as Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding, Florence and the Machine, Jewel, and Sara Bareilles. Her greatest accomplishment came in March of last year, when she won an original song competition presented by Chicago's 103.5 KISS FM; she was invited to meet - and perform before - English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ellie Goulding and her crowd following Goulding's performance in the Coca-Cola Live Lounge.
