"If 2012 has shown us anything it’s that Punk and Hardcore is definitely alive and well in today’s music scene. Another fine example of this is the ferocious new album from UK Punk band The Fear. Hailing from York, The Fear have been whipping live crowds into a frenzy since around 2004 and have finally unleashed their debut album ‘Here Goes Nothing’………..and it’s been well worth the wait!" "A particular favourite of mines was ‘A Bitter Taste’, it’s packed full of melodic punk riffery and satisfying tempo changes. I instantly loved the erratic song structures and technical choppy guitar style of The Fear, its very reminiscent of A Wilhelm Scream at times but The Fear aren’t a copycat band by any means, they have their own sound and I find it really refreshing to hear bands, like The Fear, push the envelope in today’s modern Punk scene."
"Right from the get go, with a massive feeling of Carpe Diem, The Fear throw plenty of good tunes our way"...... "The production comes across as ever so slightly thin but that seems to really be my only real gripe, with a bit more fullness at the low end, this would easily be a five star piece of material, the musical diversity is here, the talent and the energy, they may be called The Fear but Here Goes Nothing shows us that as far as experimentation goes, these guys fear nothing at all."
"There’s probably a good chance that you haven’t heard of The Fear. There’s no reason you should have either unless you’re from elsewhere in Europe that isn’t the UK. In Europe, they’ve toured with Zebrahead, MXPX and even supported the reformed Belvedere but back in the UK they don’t seem to have had as many great slots over their 8 years together. But all that could be about to change with their debut album, Here Goes Nothing. It’s a mix of fast paced punk rock with a hint of hardcore thrown in for good measure that barks and does bite, albeit sometimes not hard enough. Now with Here Goes Nothing out, The Fear can sit down and work on crafting an even better record than this debut. Here Goes Nothing is out now via Lockjaw Records."
"THE FEAR HERE GOES NOTHING (Lockjaw) *** Challenging the sound and energy of the skate punk scene and adding a more melodic modern edge, fans of Failsafe and A Wilhelm Scream will enjoy the debut full-length from The Fear. With plenty of touring and releases under their belts, it shows that the last few years hitting the road has been worth it to hone their sound. Bursting with an urgency that highlights their passion and drive, it comes across as honest and heartfelt, whether or not it's a fashionable sound right now. With some stunning guitar work, a relentless rhythm section and soaring vocals, tracks like "There Lie Better Days Ahead" and "The Bitter Taste" show a lot to love.
“‘Here Goes Nothing’ is a stunning debut, the result of years of The Fear perfecting their sound. With aggressive vocals, heartwrenching lyrics and faultless musical technique (especially from guitarists Dave & Pete), ‘Here Goes Nothing’ takes you by the hand and drags you down into melodic punk rock perfection. [9/10]”
