Slane was born in 2004 out of Sean and Tim's mutual enjoyment of the older irish culture. Thru music they'd hope to inspire their area to be more traditional in desires but also overtly intelligent about day to day goings. Difficult, but worthwhile. Music after all speaks its message to its listeners, so why not have the message be something more than pop music's?
In 2005, the original four went their separate ways after recording an amateur [LIVE] EP entitled "Fireanta." The EP was far from successful, mostly getting into contact with friends and family only. The tracks were entirely traditional and simply recorded to garner some history for the band. the members at the time were Sean, Tim, Tim J. (the fiddler), and Dan (piper). The four never rehearsed again after that fateful day...
Slane took a long awaited hiatus it didn't deserve. In 2006, August to be exact, Tim ran into another colleague of more proficient fretted string skills. By January, he and the fiddle, aptly named James, had teamed up with old friend Mike (who incidentally had ties to the original group) to recruit a few other members, and Slane was back on the roll. Not for long, however, when numerous members lost interest and backed out because of careers or love. Slane then went solo, Tim bearing the banner alone for the following year.
By 2007, little had changed. Tim had perfected (nearly, of course) his Bodhran skills, as well as fine-tuning his vocals and expanding his intellectual horizons. By listening to folk-rock bands like Great Big Sea, the Oysterband, Flogging Molly, and Enter the Haggis, Tim gained a new found respect for blending the left ideologies of the current age with the right ideologies of yesteryear. His new found inspiration sent him on a search for newer talent.
He ran into a random nobody called Bren in the winter of 2007-2008. After long deliberated thought (2 hours), he and Bren decided to join forces in the name of "Got My Cayke." The name lasted a week, when they both decided the project's direction would be more Newfoundlandish in nature. They decided something about the ocean would be nice, since they both admired her pristine beauty adamantly. "Bote" was then quickly born.
Bote has now been formed and is performing currently in the southern USA area, although one member only claims to be southern. Ironic? Yes, yes it is.
