Bio
In the beginning there was a catastrophic BOOM... and, without the use of an epidural, SKOOKUM was born: Slang for big, strong, powerful and swift. Sounds like? Powerful guitar riffs, big grooves with a walloping vocal punch! Sounds SKOOKUM! Making great music is serious business for these four jokers. They simply don’t need to write sullen and gloomy material for it to rock. With a comedic dark side, Skookum plays fresh & original heavy rock that doesn’t just dwell on the negative.
About
"SKOOKUM has been described as a HARD '70's sound! The sounds are big and reminiscent of KISS, Sabbath and some of the Seattle bands of the early 1990s, the riffs fused to amusing lyrics that'd make Frank Zappa proud." Tom Zillich, Surrey Now Published: Friday, November 30, 2007

In the beginning there was a catastrophic BOOM... and, without the use of an epidural, SKOOKUM was born. Four monsters crawled out from under the beds of rock star dreamers during an eclipse unearthing a mutual passion for chunky guitar driven rawk. Together they drew up the SKOOKUManifesto: No pretenses. Big Phat Sounds. Good Times. Rock & Roll!
The name Skookum comes from a Pacific Northwest Chinook term for big, strong, powerful and swift. Most know it as slang for "Big n' tough" or impressive. Their sound? Powerful guitar riffs, big grooves with a walloping vocal punch! They sound SKOOKUM!
Of course, making great music is serious business for this passionate band of brutes which includes Vanman, Shiny, Storm and Ray Gunn, solid players who pad the Skookum sound with impressive musicianship, creativity and solid laughs all around. SKOOKUM simply doesn't feel it has to write sullen and gloomy material for it to rock. They point to the success of

SKOOKUM hits the stage and jaws hit the floor! Their unique collection of anthemic songs, big guitars and driving grooves are only part of what separates SKOOKUM from the chaff of the multitude of bands out there. SKOOKUM also engages their audience with hilarious banter and tales to set up some of their outrageous and memorable songs, like the drink till yer sick "Bender", "Great to See You" (But I wouldn't wanna be you) and their staple live classic "the Team Canada Montage": the curse-word laden, nation-lovin semi-cover song that will never get played on commercial radio but has them rollin' in the aisles! It's a celebration of fist to air, boot to arse hard rock n roll!
Locally, SKOOKUM has enjoyed playing UBC Thunderbird Stadium , Richards on Richards, Cheers, Pub 340, the Bourbon and the Roxy Nightclub as well as sharing the stage with popular Vancouver based acts as Moka Only, Sweatshop Union, the Black Halo's & Todd Kerns. SKOOKUM was featured at New
ŜҖΘΘҖЦЩ ------>> COMIC BOOKS?!?! <<------ ŜҖΘΘҖЦЩ
Like no other band anywhere (except for maybe KISS and Coheed & Cambria?), Skookum embellishes their tales of life in a Rock n' roll band with their ongoing comic book series, SKOOKOMIX: an autobiographical cross between Spinal Tap & KISS with some fantasy thrown in for good measure. The first issue was included as a release alongside the bands debut album, Big Phat Sounds. You can follow the misadventures on their website at: http://www.skookumrock.com/art.html
