Rock against Poverty (rock as in rocking the boat) is a grassroots initiative to mobilize local musicians and artists to inspire action and raise funds to fight poverty and support climate change mitigation projects to save Mother Earth. RaP strives to provide a platform to build a movement across the globe by inspiring local artists to collaborate with international development practitioners and generate resources locally to implement innovative and sustainable solutions for poverty alleviation and climate change mitigation. It aspires to circumvent the stifling top-down approach of unduly relaying on aid and official development assistance that are never adequate and often with strings attached.
With nearly two billion people trapped in dehumanizing abject poverty, this global movement offers a fresh prospective and an urgent appeal for individuals worldwide "to be the change we have been waiting for". The world can't wait for the deadlock at the United Nations to respond to today's development and environmental challenges; the status quo is not working for the poor nor for Mother Earth.
Rock Against Poverty - Educate, Advocate, and Support Global Efforts to Save Mother Earth.
RaP was founded by the Vihara Foundation as a creative fundraising initiative to support critical development work currently underway in rural sector Bihar/Uttar Pradesh India, the home of a quarter of the world's poorest.
