Jodi had major surgery and went through chemotherapy with little success. As a result Jodi has had to leave his job with no means of supporting his family. This event will directly benefit Jodi's family as they cope with the challenges of this heartbreaking diagnosis.
Feel free to forward to those who would like to support this cause and be part of an amazing night of musicianship and hope.
Jodi's first encounter with music was as part of Willie Hona's road crew, it was during this time that he started playing a few songs beginning his journey into the world of blues. During the late eights and ninties Jodi performed with his soulful vocals and blues harp in Auckland group 'Freight Train' (Tama Lundon,Thom Nepia). With his band 'Midnight Special', Jodi crossed over with the harder metal sound of Steve Dog on guitar as they created some diamond moments throughout the North Island and central Auckland including the infamous Blues Barn and Java Jive. Alongside the acoustic sounds of JT, their duo 'Zebra Crossing' would go where no other band would go performing all the late night shifts at Aucklands Bar 202 and Shooters Bars till the early hours of morning. Jodi took to aerial photography to support his new family before making a transition to high end estate, where he worked at Premium Real Estate, Takapuna's no.1 office in real estate 2009.
Jodi Butler is New Zealand's hidden gem in an undertow of blues music. Those who have heard his sound know they witness a rare musical talent. With no need for pedestals or fame, Jodi was able to hone his craft in songwriting and layered rhythms between harmonica and guitar, gaining respect from musicians and music lovers alike.
