“Singer Shannon Nicole went from selling ads for St. Louis radio station Y98 (KFKY-FM 98.1) to gaining a spot on the station's play-list for her song "Buses and Trains." Nicole is a native of Killen, Texas, who used to sing background in St. Louis for rock band On Tracy Lane. She moved to St. Louis "for a boy in a band," dating On Tracy Lane lead singer Darryn Yates at the time. "He always said I wasn't going to be a backup singer forever," she says. Nicole stayed with On Tracy Lane for 18 months, then hooked up with Gertken last year. He'd been bugging her to record with him. She agreed, then moved to Nashville, Tenn., figuring it made sense to be in a major music city. Much of that, however, may fly out the window by the time the CD is finished. She says the label may reposition her as a country-pop singer. "I'm fine with that as long as I get to sing," Nicole says. ”
