Bio
Original UK Punk band Shag Nasty from 1977 originating from the gestation of the UK punk scene of The Kings Road and the man in the Moon public house.
About
In 1977 guitarist Riff starr and singer Gary started a punk rock band, but they had no equipment and no money. Then long standing friend Joe Strummer provided them £500.00 from The Clash's advance from CBS Records. From here Shag Nasty are known to have helped to define the sound of British punk.
During the early scene Shag Nasty gigged around London and other parts of Britain, playing alongside Menace, Screwdriver & X-Ray Spex with Polystyrene. On Sunday 17th July 1977, Shag Nasty and The Clash arrived in Birmingham to play the Britain's Burning Punk Festival which was shut down by authorities, but the incident made headlines across the country. Another memorable concert at London's Rainbow Theatre saw Shag Nasty supporting Dillinger and Clint Eastwood to a packed audience of Reggae fans.
Today, Shag Nasty are one of the core of groups that survived Britain's anarchy era and have returned with full traction to wake up today's youth. During 2008 the band played a number of gigs in London, and were invited to play the notorious Rebellion Punk festival in Blackpool on the 8th of August 2008.
By fusing the energy and spirit of 77 punk with the realities and difficulties of modern England Riff Starr has a new formula. With a streamlined set of music that includes their original punk classics and some new material, this band of rockers are positioned to excite their fans with furious anxiety during 2009.
