I started playing the trumpet in the sixth grade (too long ago). I started writing songs consistently on Valentine's Day in 1982.
My late mother Cereser T. Smith gave me a guitar on my 17th birthday and I taught myself how to play the guitar by playing along to vinyl records of Michael Jackson's Thriller, Prince's 1999, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly's Live in New Orleans. Since 1988, I have been playing keyboards and still am learning practical music theory.
