About
Q: Where were you born? A: Los Angeles, CA
Q: Where was your first show ever?
A: The first show I ever played was in Brooklyn NY in 2000. I was playing music around New York because I just like to play, not because I was hoping to become famous or anything like that. Whenever I play a song I love, I feel like the world around me stops and yields to the music. When people hear something they talk about it and with one word after another, the next thing I knew I had received my first invitation play for an audience in Brooklyn.
Q: What is your inspiration for song-writing?
A: Back in the early days I was writing songs about my friends, about love gain, love loss, about and people with interesting stories. New York is a writers playground, there are so many diverse things to see, experience and in turn, to write about. Today I'm still inspired by love, the weather, the ocean, God's precious gifts, life, funny faces, people in strange places and so much more.
Q: What are 3 of your most memorable shows?
A: The first one was I performed songs from 'through my eyes' with the Getaway Drivers in March 2006 @ the House of Blues. We opened the Sister Hazel show that evening and we all were just super excited to hit the main stage for the first time as a band. It was a packed house that night too.
The second most memorable show was May 2007 when I performed again at the H.O.B. and was requested to open for John Butler Trio who happens to be on of my favorite bands. Being a part of that show was like being in musical heaven for a night. I sat through John Butlers sound checks, simply mesmerized. I opened that show with Afro-Percussionist Cheick Sissoko and Bassist Eric Vithalani performing as Sai Collins & the Getaway Drivers.
The third most memorable was October 2007 when Tim Reynolds came through town on tour. The show was hosted at the Soapbox but the most exciting part was when Tim came out on stage and performed 'Worth The Drive' with us. Again another musical heaven like moment. The energy that was given to us by the fans was tremendous throughout the whole show.
Singer-Songwriter Sai Collins performs solo acoustic shows as well as show with the band The Getaway Drivers. The Getaway Drivers are represented by a collection of creative musicians that share the musical experience with me.
