Q: This is the first I'm hearing about Ruby's accident; can you relate the tale to me now? Also, will I ever get you kids to come play in Atlanta/Memphis, my haunts these days? Best of all wishes, Paul

A: Hey Paul! I was in a bad car accident 7 years ago that left me with a moderately severe brain trauma. For the first few years, I really struggled- I couldn't write, or even finish sentences when speaking. So you can imagine how hard it was for me on stage! That's when I started keeping lyric sheets in front of me so I didn't forget the songs as I was singing them... I then started writing daily, and playing lots of word games to work my cognitive abilities back into shape. It took some time, but all the hard work shows. I can now write songs again, and hold full conversations :-) When I'm tired, I tend to forget words still. And cross-cognitive function things like typing really take a lot of effort, but I keep at it, and am very excited about the new songs I've been writing, as well as the fact that I can :-) We would love to come out and play for you! What's a good festival or event that we could play at out your way? Looking forward to seeing you down the road, RD
