“Love you're sound, your vibe, and your kickass live set.”
— Ari Welkom (Cosmic Suckerpunch)
“Originally formed in 2006 as a 3 piece around vocalist/lyricist Milyn Satterfield, they’ve now expanded to a 14 piece band with a woodwind & brass section, keys, strings & turntables. That’s evolution at double speed. Their Southern roots are reflected in the chilled, lazy grooves in which they frame Milyn’s words & distinctive sound. Influenced by hiphop, blues, Southern rock & San Francisco psychedelia, Milyn’s original voice, & her band, a loose-limbed organism, move & shape themselves to suit. Perhaps they’re just part of a wave of Alabama bands, but I’ve not heard anything quite like them. Their mix of big band aesthetics & languid, toasted vibe is seriously appealing, & the standout tracks manage to find a link between the boho smarts of Rickie Lee Jones & old-school rap crews like Arrested Development. They’re quite a proposition, & if any of the above sounds interesting, I can only recommend that you check out “Southern Circus” at your earliest convenience. Yo”

“Royal and Toulouse's Southern Circus takes you on a journey through the Southland. Satterfields intense vocals and the depth of the instruments draw you into a whimsical carnival, pull you into the swamplands of the gulf, and plant you in the middle of the streets of New Orleans. This is definitely a journey you want to take and may not want to end..”
— Deborah Mauldin, fan
"Royal and Toulouse, the sexiest band I have ever seen!"
— Serena Lynn Nicholson, fan
“Such an earthy, smoky and sultry voice combined with the, mystic haunting guitar riffs that whine, twist and turn then evaporate mystically into a Joplin, Nina Simone, Natasha Shneider, Paige and Hendrix love child.
No matter the comparisons between the greatest artists of all time, Milyn Satterfield is one of a kind. She reaches deep into her soul and bares it all, whether if it's for your pleasure, a necessity or her sanity. She comes at you raw and gets right into your soul. The lyrics and vocals are those of an old soul and Milyn belts out some of the grittiest and smoothest vocals ever.”
“One word RAW! Haunting and whiny guitar riffs paired with solid power bass lines and growly, gritty, passionate vocals melt together for this sultry soulful southern sound. Not only is Milyn Satterfield, the talented lyricist and vocalist overflowing with soul reminiscent of Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin but she looks like a Botticelli painting bursting with her infamous "whiskey soaked vocals". It's in no way a traditional blues, more of a swing that keeps your attention on the wild times and hard living told to you by a smoky voiced old soul. The production value isn't one to brag about but neither were those of Robert Johnson. With these intoxicating vocals and Hendrix meets Jimmy Page guitar wails I can't wait to hear what these guys do next.”
