Rex Shachath / Press

"When people open their eyes and ears and not only focus on death metal from Scandinavia a band like Rex Shachath could draw some deserved attention."

"Rex Shachath are on their way to becoming one of the most promising death metal acts from the UK."

"No dull moments, no hidden agendas – this is straight up underground straight from Northern Ireland"

"Rex Shachath have produced an absolutely outstanding EP that offers up five tracks of everything that old school death metal should be, i.e. nasty, no holds barred, to the point and with a production that goes straight for the throat – all of which these tracks are/have. This comes highly recommended. Gore not core!"

"Rex Shachath pisses all over pretension and just plain gets the job done. Nice one, boys!"

"Sepulchral Torment is only the beginning of Rex Shachath's retro death strike against the hordes of overproduced, dime-a-dozen bands."

"The five members operate as a tight, destructive death metal machine: the musicianship is all exemplary, the songs are well-written and very well performed and frontman Dave is indeed a powerhouse. A very worthy debut and a band with a great future ahead of them."

"A release which is neck deep in the depths and passion of old school death metal but ignites them with their own energy and skilled presence to bring arguably one of the freshest and enjoyable genre releases this year."

"Rex Shachath have found the equilibrium between the thrash elements and the straight forward death-metal tremolo riffing perfectly. One second your head will be violently thrashing and then, sawed clean off your shoulders by the razor sharp tremolo work. Back and forth you will be thrust through unique passages and tempos that you can’t help but feel the wrath of Rex Shachath. Poorly written death metal is known for its monotonous nature, but due to the fact that Rex Shachath have amalgamated the various weapons of death-metal properly avoids the all too common 'blending' problem. This is riff driven death metal that will satisfy even the pickiest of nit pickers, and this is yet only one piece of the Rex Shachath puzzle of excellence."

"This EP is well worth the time and money and it really will leave you salivating for a full length album from these guys. My hope is they get to tour the States at some point as I think that these guys will put on a killer live show."

"Rex Shachath bring death metal back to its roots with their debut release. This is Old School Death Metal"

"Proper death metal done damned well. This old school approach sounds fresh and new in an industry where there’s all sorts of new approaches, the simple guitar lines doing their job and forming into a track which is going to devastate venues, get pits moving and gain the band a reputation as a must see on the death metal scene."

"Punishing death metal from the glory years of the early 90s, with zero interest in pig grunts and gravity blasts, and a focus on cool riffs instead. ‘Follow The Bastard’ has some ugly Morbid Angel in it, probably from round about ‘Altars Of Madness’ or more likely ‘Blessed Are The Sick’, though those earliest Cannibal Corpse albums get a look in as well. Then there’s a hefty, slow Immolation weight in ‘Blind From Birth’. It’s the darkest track on here, and it’s chorus is a cracker. Even the guitar tone seems to have that deliberately cardboardy, mid range dryness redolent of the New Yorkers."

“The shifts in tempos, feels and dynamics show a band as heavy as they are uncompromising in their devotion to all things ugly as one after another slice of disfigured grimness is spat into the mix. Gore-torn riffs, savage drumming, a deranged brutal vocal and twisted lead breaks, Rex Shachath mercilessly bite into this bunch of grooving and guttural tracks with the lunatic fervour of a rabid dog. A great debut, this is a band to keep an eye on.”

"I pretty much knew I would eat this up from the early moments of “The Bastard Prophet”. Ah yes, the comforting sounds of vicious chainsaws grinding their way through a big fuckin’ pile of corpsemeat with ghoulish vocals and knee-capping percussion. The music is spiced up with tempo dynamics and a dose of technicality in the riffs."
