REINA WILLIAMS If Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz, Pink and Justin Timberlake could miraculously make a love child, it would be Reina Williams. The Baltimore native is making noise these days with her eclectic acoustic soul hip hop sound with an amazing singing voice to match. Daughter of an Opera singer and a Sculptor, she began writing music for her own sanity at age 12, dealing with the angst ridden feelings of a young pre teen, inspired by the music of Metallica, Kurt Cobain, Boyz II Men, Sade, and Seal. At about age 14, she was exposed to Hip Hop, and RnB, artists like Jay-Z, DMX, Lil' Kim, and Timbaland and this is when she really started taking an interest in MIDI composing and combining it with live recorded guitar. In 2011 she made an appearance on FOX Network's The X-Factor Season 1 where in an Un-Aired audition in front of Celebrity Judges, Simon Cowell said this about Reina's performance . . . "She made my year!" Currently, Reina lives in Brooklyn, NY and is working on getting back to her original organic sound. She is writing new music for herself as well as publisher Red Rock-a-Media, and holds a residency at the hip and chill Bed-Stuy hot spot Rustik Tavern. CRYS MATTHEWS Crys Matthews released her sophomore album, A Lesson Learned, as well as an EP called The Izzle Ballads in 2012. In the September issue of Curve magazine, Rachel Shatto wrote: "A Lesson Learned sounds like how a glass of iced tea tastes: familiar, comfortable and refreshing...Fans of Tracy Chapman and Ani DiFranco will find plenty to love with this album, as Matthews shares their gifts of telling simultaneously intimate and relatable stories, all while continuing to refine her own unique brand of R&B folk." A prolific lyricist and composer, Crys Matthews has penned three full-length albums and has already began working on a fourth. Her new album, Come What May was released in May and is already being hailed as her "best yet". A departure both musically and lyrically from her earlier works, this album bridges the gap between contemporary folk and Americana with simple, honest storytelling set to great music that helps you feel every word. From the title track (a love song, sparked by a furlough) to “You Remind Me” (three love stories rolled up into a history lesson), Come What May is a beautiful and heartfelt commentary on the belief that the personal is political and the political is personal.Save I'm Going!
