About

The Quarteto em Mim was conceived in early 2007, resulting from the urge to work on music which evades the classical background of its members, with the objective of exploring different musical styles through arrangements and a classical approach. The debut performance took place in April 2007 in the Performing Arts Centre in Portalegre and mesmerised the audience which asked for the return of the musicians several times, with a standing ovation. The critics were unanimous in considering that concert to have been one of the best concerts ever presented in that venue. The SIC Television station was present and was able to record the opinion of those present. Emotive, unexpected, excellent were the adjectives most used. The programme was later shown in the Evening News of that station.
The Quartet was invited by the "Os Azeitonas" pop group to participate in its second album "Rádio Alegria", now marked by the presence of the string members of the Quartet in the “Vale de Lobos” studios belonging to Rui Veloso, for the recording of the music "Nos desenhos animados nunca acaba mal" ("cartoons always have a happy ending"). The Quarteto em Mim is now preparing to conquer Piazzolla tango lovers' hearts throughout the country.

The work on “Thinking about Tango”, transports the public to the gripping sensuality of Tango, through the music of Astor Piazzolla and Dance as well as words, lights and colours , going through the steps of Tango and involving the public in its poetry traced by feelings. The violins, cello and piano have brought a broader and more varied eloquence to tango, as instruments fundamental in the keeping of the tango rhythm which has definitely improved the structure and quality of the music. Nowadays, Tango lives as the identifying and differential element in the holding soul, with constant evocations dispersed throughout the world. Astor Piazzolla used to say “Tango no longer exists”. Probably due to this, it was re-invented, incorporating elements of jazz and serious music. The “Thinking about Tango” concert also includes the participation of guest dancers Pedro Candeias and Ana Candeias as well as accordionist Ricardo Alves. The Quarteto em Mim intends that the music it performs begins only with the feeling deciphered by the Quartet, allowing that the interpretation of the music be always unique to each listener, heard and felt in a personal way and thus rejecting any reference to pre-established forms of playing and feeling music. The Quartet's name is derived from a term in classical music concerts referring to tonality (Mi) in music, establishing a point for personal interpretation of tonality in the music performed through the reference "em Mim" which means “in Me”.
