I am thrilled about my new video Thank God I Can't Believe My Eyes. I sought public domain military photos for the second verse, intending to add irony to a protest verse within a song of hope. I found instead that the US Armed Services had photos suitable for the full song, and using them gave me a whole new view of the piece -- and to me that is art. The meaning within the video is independent of the more general meaning of the lyrics alone. I just hope you can handle my voice, and if anyone out there knows Randy Travis or Josh Turner, I'd rather hear them singing it.
I play only a little worse than I sing, so I am less interested in marketing myself as a performer than in marketing music rights to other performers -- though if someone thinks my own performance worth paying for I'm more than happy to oblige
For this reason any of my personally created individual tracks may be freely distributed for any non-commercially related use -- PLEASE! Pass them around for free all you want, as long as you don't modify them. See info on performing, recording, publishing, or other commercial rights at the end.
About "The Wind is a-Risin'" -- I recorded this song in front of a live audience at the Inn at Keystone. I wrote the original lyrics, which were a bit forced, when I was 18 and believed my life beyond redemption. These lyrices are the more natural revision I wrote 10 years later when I was certain my life was beyond redemption :-
About "Paint a Whisper" -- Long personal story. I am preparing a wedding version with slightly different lyrics. That will be available for fans only.Expect to hear me stumble at one place in this recording, otherwise I think I did fairly well, for being the one performing it.
I would much rather hear professional performers try "Paint a Whisper" than myself. Among my favorite choices of known performers to sing it would be Harry Coniff, Jr.; Maggie, Pierce and E.J; and Tony Bennet -- but my number one pick to perform it would be actor Kevin Spacey, and if you wonder why you need to see "Beyond the Sea". The more I listen to Stephanie's Id, here on Reverb Nation, the more I'd love to hear how they do any of my songs.
About "Legacy of Elsinore" -- Never expected this to be a song. During the Desert Shield/Storm I got tired of everything I saw having something to do with it. I went to see Mel Gibson in "Hamlet". It didn't take my mond off of it. That movie and three gin and tonics later I wrote the lyrics. I came up with the tune just last winter working graveyard shift at the Inn at Keystone.
If you're interested in using my recordings for anything that will involve money changing hands, I would like the opportunity to request a kickback. If you're interested in performing, recording, or publishing any of my songs yourself, please contact me at peterjohnstone@hotmail.com
