About
Peste & Sida started punkrockin in 1986. At the time the band members were: João Pedro Almendra - vocals, João San Payo - bass/vocals, Luis Varatojo - guitar, Orlando Cohen - guitar and Fernando Raposo - drums. This formation recorded the first and second albums.
In 1990, after the lead singer João Pedro Almendra and the guitarist Orlando Cohen quit the band, the bassist João San Payo started doing lead vocal as well and Peste & Sida recorded their third album as a trio.
In 1992 the first drummer quit the band and Marco Franco took his place. Nuno Rafael also joined the band as guitarist and this formation recorded the fourth album of Peste & Sida.
The band started doing a parallel cover project called "Despe e Siga" that recorded a first album in 1994 after Marco Franco quit the drums being substituted by Sergio Nascimento.
Peste & Sida stopped recording in 1994 after appearing in two compilations. Some members weren't interested in getting on with the two projects anymore and the band stopped playing for nine years.
In 2003 João San Payo invited two young musicians, João Alves - guitar and Marte Ciro - drums to restart the band. This trio recorded the fifth album of Peste & Sida and the first lead vocal João Pedro Almendra also joined the band after a while. The successfully coming back and the twenty years of history make Peste & Sida one of the most charismatic rock bands from Lisbon now.
