About
"There's just no stopping this pied piper. Peace Jones creates a mesmerizing, booty-shaking small town ruckus; working class funk-Americana...shades of Mighty Mighty Bosstones, George Clinton and Rare Earth..." -- Pasckie Pascua, The Indie, Asheville NC, Oct. 2006
"After paying his dues as a longtime drummer in the Asheville scene, frontman Paul DeCirce has drawn comparisons to the Pied Piper for his ability to create a revolution through fluting. Proficient on most instruments, DeCirce provides solo embellishments on guitar, harmonica and flute during a Peace Jones set." --Jer Cole, Knoxville News Sentinel, 2/07
Paul DeCirce -- known to pals as "Drum" -- first played in Asheville at Be Here Now in Spring of 2000, as the drummer for Hot Gravy. Since then, Paul has played with Scrappy Hamilton, Paperboy, Delia Lytle's UFO, and is currently house drummer at the Center for Creative Living in Asheville NC. Though well known for his monstrous drumming, it is Peace Jones that is truly his musical landmark.
Paul plays flute, guitar, sings, plays pretty much whatever makes it to the gig -- mandolin, melodica, percussion, etc. as well as his usual jazz-flute and epic rock guitar soloing. The band's debut CD hit regional radio quite hard and their songs "Laundry Lady," "Every Day," and "The Vision" have been received well in press and radio. Their funk meets progressive/jazz-hop/southern rock melding, mixed with their ever-growing infamous live performances has made PJ one of the most well known and respected groups in the region.
The band consists of Paul, Eric Ciborski on keyboards, Greg Terhune on bass guitar and Todd Omley on the drumset. Eric is from NJ has played widely in the New Orleans region and occasionally sits in with The Secret B-Sides in Asheville. Greg is from Detroit via Texas where he played widely and locally sits in with Dharpa locally.
Their upcoming 2009 much-anticipated 2nd full length are featuring tracks that have been tested on the road. PJ came out with an ep in 2004 "The Path Narrows" and their full-length "Down to the Bone" in '06. They have been gigging in Western North Carolina, Eastern TN, upstate SC, Georgia and Virginia as well as down to the Coast of the SouthEast. The band is true to the independent spirit and has formed their own indie-label Ghostbaby Records. Festivals, Clubs, Radio, Television, Fans of the best in classic rock, funk and reggae all have agreed that PJ is an exciting act to watch for.
