BLUE HELIX / Press

“Today’s musical offering is a band called Blue Helix that hails from Puyallup. Today’s band, although clearly influenced heavily by all the great bands that have come out of the northwest, isn’t stuck in 1994. They do a great job of grabbing little bits and piece of grunge, mixing it with alternative rock and arena-sized power ballads and have developed their own sound. Over the last 8 years they have been together, they have honed their sound, grown their fanbase and their radio friendly sound is finding its way to the airwaves. With the amount of press they are getting and the radio airplay as well, 2017 looks to be a monster year for the band and we’ll be keeping an eye on them.”

“Well-known for their powerful and compelling live performance, Blue Helix indulges their audience with genuine passion and true showmanship.”

"Blue Helix’s “Aliens” has a tender, cinematic quality to it. Tender articulate lyrics serve as the beating heart of the sound. Attention to detail is impeccable as the sound grows into a cascading rush of sound."

"Aliens is the best love ballard in the past 29 years. Since Whitesnake's Is this love. The video is highly professional, excellent production, great effects, full of feeling, with a lump in the throat at the end, especially with the shell. Brilliant touch. Yes I'll admit now I'm an unashamed fan."

"The Blue Helix Album, 'Tale of Two Halves' supersedes a powerful impact in overcoming the physical, as well as musical boundaries and obstacles, in life itself, regarding the Independent Music Scene, while climbing the ladder of selfless, exploratory new rock, embracing compassion with positive and negative life events, as a whole."

"Blue Helix premiered the video for their single “Aliens,” taken from their album Tale of Two Halves at the Columbia City Theater on Friday July 1. Chohfi welcomed everyone who came out on a lovely summer evening to witness the premiere of their video for “Aliens.” He described the video “as a love story about the final moments on earth of a dying man who accepts death through a love that transcends life.” Chohfi also talked about how much planning and editing the entire process required and that, as he put it, was more challenging than recording an entire record. Chohfi then introduced Asher Vast, Kevin Preston, and Amy Greenwood, who collectively make up the team at the video production services company Tetraknot. They went on to describe in more detail the process of shooting, the details put into the visual effects and working with the actors in the video as well as the band. Vast also discussed shooting parts of the video at Deception Pass and the Quinault Indian Reser

"On July 1st, 2016 I had the opportunity to spend a lovely night out with the lady. We went to Blue Helix's video premiere party for their music video "Aliens". The venue was Columbia City Theater in South Seattle. As we walked in, the place was just packed. Sami of Blue Helix and his team had put together one hell of an event, to say the least. Aliens itself is a very good video to watch. In my opinion, I'd certainly say its deep. Love is a powerful thing and Aliens really encompasses how powerful it can be. Tetraknot really got my attention on the Visual effects as well. Locations are beautiful and the actors were great looking and did a fantastic job as well. After a teary eyed audience had finished cheering, there was a Q&A segment which was a very nice touch."

"In an age where the radio has basically played the same bands for the last decade... It's time for some new blood to join the fold. That's where Washington's Blue Helix comes in. Meeting somewhere between 90's alternative rock ala Candlebox and Collective Soul and a lighter Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin - Blue Helix is the perfect recipe for cruising along down the road and turning up the volume and just jamming out. The vocals drive much of the songs and for good reason. There's plenty of focus on big melodies and choruses and the lyrics. At times you may feel like you're listening to David Draiman or Myles Kennedy on vocals but I assure you, it's Sami Chohfi letting loose with his pipes."

"I hadn’t heard of Blue Helix until last week, but wooo boy, they made an impression with this tune! This four-piece indie rock band formed in 2008 and is based in Washington State. They’re influenced by the the grunge scene of the 1990s, and blend that influence with a twist of melodic rock, hard rock, and just an all around powerful, heavy vibe. ‘Tale of Two Halves’ is a very impressive album: I highly recommend checking that out as well."

“The four-piece indie rock band based out of Washington State, Blue Helix, is an unique and honest mix of hard rock, acoustic melodies, and lyrical quality. The avant-garde band produces a hooking set of guitars, violins, piano and modern electric guitar sounds. Their pounding drums and heart-pumping chords are balanced and truthful, leaving any rock junkie satisfied. Frontman and songwriter Sami Chohfi is a cutting edge performer who polished Blue Helix’s latest 11-track album, “A Tale of Two Halves.” The album is a compelling work of genuine instrumentation and soft to vigorous soundscapes. Along with Chohfi is lead guitarist Cicero, bassist JC, and drummer Jebbadiah, making the dynamic complete.”

“If you think long and hard about it, is there any other place in the U.S. with a more prestigious history of alternative rock than the state of Washington? In the ‘90s, the revered Grunge genre sprang forth and gave the world some its most unforgettable acts. The state produced Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Mudhoney, and a seemingly endless list of other bands. At the present time, Washington continues to deliver great music. [...] Another act worth mentioning is Blue Helix from Puyallup, a small town southeast of Tacoma. This band is a group of four guys from different backgrounds that have come together to make music, inspired by the Grunge-era bands which dominated their home turf years earlier.”

“Tale of Two Halves features eleven tracks—about half of which are softer, acoustic melodies, while the other half are more of a hard rock style. Personally, I find that the best songs on the album are “Carry Me” and “Wolves”—both of which are in the softer, acoustic realm. It’s not that I prefer soft rock (I overall lean more towards hard rock) but I find that these two songs in particular have a lyrical quality to them that is unparalleled by any of the other songs on the album. Nevertheless, I must digress. After all, if every single song was a sentimental ballad, it would be overkill. One of my favorite things about Blue Helix is that Chohfi does an excellent job of counterbalancing softer melodies with songs that feature plenty of the hard rock thrashing that we all love. “Bullets” is by far the best hard rock song on the album, with plenty of electric guitar, heavy bass, and pounding drums to satisfy any rock-a-holic.”

“First cab off the rank and ready to face the back 9 is Sami Chohfi (Guitar/Vocalist) - Blue Helix Q - What was the first instrument you learnt and was it the one you wanted to learn? A - The clarinet, and honestly those younger years of playing it seems to be a blur. I wasn't good at it at all so I chose to forget I even played it. I only recall playing it because I see photos of myself when I was young with it. Q - Biggest live show to date and were you nervous or stressed out? A – 2015 Puget Sound Battle of the Bands Finale which we won. And no. I'm never nervous, just extremely stressed. Having to deal with gear, parking, loading and unloading and all that comes with being in a band. Q - What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous? A – Remember that you are your worst critic, and the people watching you wish they were the ones with the courage(balls)to be up there.”

“Recently, I sat down with Sami Chohfi, lead singer and guitarist of self-described melodic rock band Blue Helix. While reviewing their album Tale of Two Halves in a previous article, I was struck by how genuine and vibrant their music was. What followed was a great discussion of the band’s development from its beginnings, as well as some optimistic predictions for the future. "Our music is unapologetically honest, and that’s what sets us apart from a lot of other bands. It has some very good, catchy commercial elements to it without being over the top. I know Blue Helix is going to do well because we’re getting better as songwriters."”

“A Washington state band, Blue Helix, is polishing off their musical roots with an album that ventures into the rock and metal genres from recent decades. Described by their main songwriter as “hard rock and acoustic music mainly stemming from the ‘grunge’ era in Seattle,” Blue Helix embrace a style that pulls no punches. Blue Helix comes highly recommended. Their kinds of forthright attitudes and musical virtuosity are both refreshing and, at times, undervalued. Their work reflects not only a passion for their music, but for life and thought in general. That kind of approach is admirable, even aside from talent.”

"Wow, finally a live rock show that has soul and energy". We drove all the way from Bolder, Colorado to Denver with two hours notice to see Blue Helix perform at The Marquis Theater, they for lack of a better word, Floored us!. These guys had people whom never heard of them chanting there names before they left the stage. I cant wait to see where there career takes them, GodSpeed ,Blue Helix"
