5th Child / Press

“Jackson rapper Stephen Brown, aka 5th Child, spends the majority of his time in his bedroom studio making music. When he has a show to rock, you can count on him being there and killing it. The rest of the time, you can count on the 24-year-old staying in Friday nights to dig for samples, make beats and write lyrics.”

“Mississippi emcees 5th Child & Trumpcard have teamed up for this new free album Kid Superfly. This 15 track album is presented by DJ Young Venom. Full cover, tracklist & link after the jump.”

“I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile and I’m finally getting around to it. Here’s Mississippi emcee 5th Child’s latest album and 4th solo LP, Pianos In The Dark. “The title comes from a story of a young piano player at an upscale jazz club,” says 5th Child, “who is forced to play music to entertain rich patrons who would never accept him as an equal but gladly dance to his “catchy” music.” Tracklist & link after the jump.”

“It’s too often that local cats from small markets with a gang-load of talent are passed over for the next big ATL/Chicago/NY MC. Good thing this doesn’t seem to be happening to Jackson, MS MC 5th Child.”

“I told you all a loooong time ago about the dopeness of 5th Child. Here he is with partner in crime and fellow Jacktownian Trumpcard to form Kid Superfly. The DJ Venom-hosted mixtape is an excellent compilation of ride-out music and fierce lyrics. These guys are downright hungry, which is refreshing to hear as this harkens back to when you and your homie would rap over cassette recorders. This probably has doper results though.”

“5th Child – “Hometown” (Prod. by Strongarm)– Poor 5th Child. He played this song for me right after he performed it at a show in Jackson, MS. The crowd ate it up and the song was on its way to being major. About a week later, I heard K.R.I.T.’s version that had already taken off. The songs are so similar, but I can attest that they were made completely independent of one another. Still, 5th’s track, produced by Strongarm, holds its own. The song takes a literal approach, speaking specifically about Jackson and his upbringing. Again, Adele dominates the hook, fitting well over the Southern-fried slaps.”

“My Mississippi brethren 5th Child is back with another LP, Pianos In The Dark. Like the title implies, it’s quite…darker…than his previous efforts. The album has a consistent theme of 5th battling with the mid-20s transition into adulthood and self-sufficiency after college. It’s a take that we don’t hear quite enough and one that is handled eloquently throughout the album. Pianos In The Dark captures the confusion, frustration and determination this recession era causes this mid-20s generation to feel. But let’s not forget: 5th Chizzle is a bonafide monster on the mic and he proves it with tracks like “Name Right”:”
