“House music originated in Chicago, IL arguably around 1984. After the disco era of the 70s, a new style of electronic music was born, “Preppy,” which morphed into house. House originated when electronic drum machines and keyboards first exploded on the market. At about this time, Jesse Saunders, a house music pioneering DJ, released “On & On,” which many say is the first house music record to be produced and released to the public. After this, house evolved to include harmony, melody, bridges, hooks and more instrumentation.”
“Over the past thirty years since it grew out of the Chicago club scene, house music has conquered the world one dancefloor at a time. Now, you can go to the wikipedia page for house music, and you can get at some indisputable facts as to how house music started, you can learn who some of the big names were, and what was going on, but what you never truly will get is a full understanding of how it all truly began. This is a perspective few have, and thankfully we took some time to speak with Jesse Saunders, one of the house music originators to find out about that wild and crazy time when house music began way back when, and what Jesse thinks of the music world today.”
“Saunders has a vision for his adopted hometown, so he is going forward with an ambitious plan for a new Downtown venue centered around all things electronic music: Part gallery, part coffee shop, with a bar, lounge and more.”
