I don't really hang out in bars, but if I did, I would hang out at this place. Great atmosphere, great food, a fantastic sound guy (Billy!), and a really fun and diverse crowd. The is musician geeky - but they even had special power box to plug the amps into and the result was no hum or feedback - everything sounded great.
This show wrapped up the summer of Brother :( - we played all over the Westside, Outside, and Downtown this summer. Now everyone is taking August to travel and vacation a bit, except the Sabbagh's, they have their yearly music festival in Maine and then Kahlil is off to Europe to play vibes in a Zappa festival.
During out little break the Sabbagh's will be putting the finishing touches on a studio so it looks like we'll be recording this fall. Ginger has written 3 new songs + her tune from last year gives us 4 originals for the album.
Enjoy your summer kids!

The summer of Brother continued with our Good Hurt Debut. It was a night the of "new" It was our first official "club" gig-new. While setting up I got blasted by the fog machine, a gig with a fog machine, that was new :) Kahlil had different kit to play on-new. They had an amazing PA system with a terrific sound guy-new. With the club's set up we sounded great - we could really hear each other and with that sound we all climbed into the "pocket" and stayed there (not new!).
Best compliment of the was from Ron the bouncer -"Man that was an unexpected treat, nobody plays the blues here - ya'll come back!" First gig with a bouncer -new.
Joe from The Rumor Mill came to hear us - booked us for Sept-New Venue.
Met Mike from Static Age Photo - who took some amazing shots of the band and is now looking to book us for a Blues Night at Time Warp Music - which would be another new venue for us - a night of new, new, new
The summer of Brother to be continued . . . next up Fisherman's Wharf

Just lined up our return gig to The Cinema Bar, it's not until October, but it'll be worth the wait. We'll be sharing the night with another great local blues band, Midnight Mojo. Two great bands and three blues filled hours will entertain the good folks of Culver City in late October. Details to follow and I have feeling we'll be lining up some very special guest to appear with us between now and then. Stay tuned . . .

Old School MGM packed the house for us. It was great seeing so many old friends, and even better having Tony Pro & Bob Hardenbrook take the stage with us. It became a studio mash-up with Sony, Universal, & Paramount represented. Only one fight broke out but it went into arbitration . . . Great crowd, great show, and a hell of a time had by all.
The winner of the Brother Derek Educational Fund was random Cinema Bar Patron "Joe" who sang "Cold Shot" to a crowd of 2 at 12:30am! You did awesome Joe! Rod (Cinema Bar Owner) - thanks for letting us do our 4th & 5th sets!
The highlight for the Dads in the band (Kahlil, Drew, & Chris) was our 1:00am walk to Cinco De Mayo for late night Mexican Food. With our gig over and our wives and children passed out we were able to get about 30 minutes of guy time, the highlight of which was a Kahlil story. (Why do drummers always have the best stories?) The other night Kahlil began his bedtime ritual: get naked, brush his teeth in the living room in order to catch 5 minutes of TV and then shower. Once he finished the brushing he began to walk into the bathroom where he was shocked to discover . . . you'll have ask him to finish the story. It entails two penises, an electric toothbrush and a lot of laughter.
Drew rightly pointed out that one of the best things about this band is how much fun we have, glad we're able to share it with all of you.

Brother Derek had the pleasure of opening for Miss Jessica and the Sugar Shack Attack last Sat. It was a fantastic crowd - we even had 2 couples dancing . . . I have no idea how they managed that given that the place was packed :)!! We cranked out 1 set instead of our usual 3 so this gig felt like a sprint - it was great fun, but to us, almost over as soon as it began :( Big thanks so Suzy for passing the Neon Tip Jar (I love that thing!) and for cutting a rug. Thanks to those who bought CD's and for those who wanted more (including us). . . we return to the Cinema Bar next Thursday. That gig will be no sprint. To quote Kahlil - we're coming back for 3 hours of this st! Hope see you back there June 9th.

Cinema Bar was a kick in the pants, we had a great crowd. Over 30 people came out as the night went on, we rocked the house and Kahlil started the Brother Derek Educational Fund. Our neon tip jar was a hit not only did it make us $$$, people wanted to buy it :) Ginger sounded amazing, Stormy Monday was fantastic. Special thanks to Bob Hardenbrook who sat in on guitar and to Charles, winner of the Brother Derek Educational Fund.
