There are a few things that I got to get off of my chest! I read article recently where someone criticized Lecrae for some of his recent moves which include collaborating with secular artists, and maybe him having a watered down approach with preaching the gospel.
FIRST!! I think a lot of people need to keep in mind that Lecrae is a first of his kind. He’s really the 1st Christian rap superstar. There’s really no one in the genre that’s gotten as big as him. His last album won a Grammy for the best gospel album and sold 72,000 copies in the 1st week. My point is that when you’re a trailblazer you’re going to make mistakes, because you really have no one’s path to follow in. So questions like who to collaborate with and where to perform have to very stressful decisions.
When it comes to my music I wanted to be considered a hip hop artist first before a Christian rapper. I felt like this before Lecrae decided to do it. I just felt like I was a hip hop artist just like Nelly or 50 Cent was it’s just that my content is different. I feel like if rap music wasn’t so well known for having music that can be violent, vulgar, and full of profanity people would have never given artist in the genre of Christian rap that label. Don’t get me wrong I want you to see the difference in my music than Nelly’s and 50’s but I’m just as much hip hop as they are. But I want you to HEAR the difference for yourself. I also understand why some people need the label (which is the same reason why putting music in genre’s was created) to help the consumer know what he’s getting into. Truth is a musician can care less what genre he’s making he/she just wants to make music. I want to make music that glorifies God even when I’m making a song about a girl or a bad day. Will I succeed at this every time? Probably not but I know I’m a work in progress and that God is still making me a better person and artist every day.
Now when it comes to collaborations with secular artists. I do this a lot myself and sometimes people will criticize me just like they do Lecrae. I feel like Lecrae feels like this is an opportunity to be a witness to a different set of people and build a relationship with the artist that he’s collaborating with. I have a few rules when it comes to collaborating. 1 rule is no cursing I’m not going to allow it to be on my song. Now if I’m on your song and your cursing that’s on you but I’m not going to do the song unless I feel led.
Now my only problem with some of the stuff I’ve seen with the Reach Records camp is how in interviews sometimes it feels like they’re trying to not say the name Jesus. Instead they’ll use words like faith and hope. I feel like there’s no need for this just come out and say what you believe in. Now I’m not saying that they do this all the time but I felt like I’ve noticed it in certain instances.
Overall we’ve all come short Romans 3:20. But some of this stuff is between the individual and God, and if we feel like our brother is doing something wrong we need to pray for them and address them with love.

What’s up kinfolkkkkk!!! Hope you’re having a good day. Just want to update you on what I got going on. First I got a new song out today called “I’m Movin’ On” feat. XB (listen here http://youtu.be/gDJzGk5P650 ) it’s my second released off of my upcoming album titled “Nice Guy Wins”. I’ve been spending a lot of time on this project and I know it’s my best one yet. (Even though I hate when rappers say that lol) But I got a video for my song “Throw Away The Trash” if you still haven’t listened shame on you ;) lol (listen here http://youtu.be/ZMCbgkwBXXE ) but the video will be out Jan. 27th. This is my first video so if you can share it with your friends when it drops that would be dope!
Still be on the lookout for “Mutual Respect: The New Testament” but right now it’s all about “Nice Guy Wins”. Also I’m gonna try to do more videos so if you’re interested in being involved in any way with my future videos just contact me on twitter @AJB4
Hope you have a blessed day, and remember that even when you’re at your lowest God’s right there with you.

A lot of songs I make I'm just expressing confidence in myself and that God made me special, and a lot of kids across the globe struggle with self-confidence I just wanna let them know that they can be confident. It might come off arrogant but i'm not tryna be, and i'm not like other "christian" rappers. I'm human so i like to talk about alot of things but at the end of the day i believe Jesus is the most important thing. I'm a WIP (WORK IN PROGRESS)
