EAR CANDLE FILLMORE SHOW REVIEW OCT24TH 2009
"review from the Fillmore"
We staked out a place up front and chatted with a family who came together, a young son in his early 20s who brought his out-of-town mom to show her a good time. An unannounced opening act came on .The band is called INTERSTELLAR GRAINS. [We will be adding some of their music to the station as soon as they send it.] and plunged into some psychedelic fusion funk. They were all right. Short songs are a good quality for a jam band to cultivate. The best part was when they brought a fifth member on with a solid body electric sitar and they took off into classic San Francisco acid-rock territory. Otherwise, they were a pleasant, skilled warmup for the main event.

"DJ Gears from KZSU stanford"
Alright, what else was good today? I really, really like the Replikas from Turkey. Talk about psych rock and oriental melodies… These guys are the real thing! A listener called up and told me about this local Bay Area band called the Interstellar Grains. Highly recommended space rock. The best music to feed your mind on. What else….........

Myspace sampler from local space rock band. Strong eastern melody influences and a healthy love of all things prog and space. Mostly chilled out, fluid guitar jams with some more rocking bits. Very good stuff, definitely worth checking out. Hope these guys come out with more. For fans of King Crimson, Yes, as well as our last year's influx of German prog (Novalis, Guru Guru, Epitaph, etc.)
Picks: 1 (but all 3 are good) *** No FCCs ***
*1. sitar intro makes way to bluesy guitar jam. nice!
2. more prog/jazzy sounding, strange electronic effects and voice samples
3. short ballad with gilmour-style guitars

Ear Candle Radio's Top 20: December 2008
The number two slot is held by a local mostly-instrumental group, the Interstellar Grains, and their brief sitar piece, "The Past". We have a couple of Interstellar Grains tracks on our upcoming playlist, and are looking forward to their show at the Boom Boom Room in a couple of weeks. We saw this band open for the Mountain Goats and Kaki King last year and asked them for a CD. Next thing you know, they're at number two. How about that?
The Love Dogs continue to thrive with their Albert Ayler tribute, and the Interstellar Grains and A.J. In Evolution grace us with more instrumental goodness, as does Kaki King with another tangled virtuoso guitar piece. The Vivian Girls teach a new generation how to say "NO!", the Incredible String Band and Irma Thomas curl up and get romantic, and our own label is represented by one each from the Blame and the Experimental Bunnies.
