PENNY IKINGER + THE MALADIES + MASAMI KAWAGUCHI SATURDAY 17th OCTOBER - THE FACTORY FLOOR, MARRICKVILLE (SYDNEY)

PENNY IKINGER - Virtuoso guitar priestess with the primeval voice of a dark angel.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, PENNY IKINGER is a highly regarded international artist, with a reputation for both her solo and collaborative work with musicians here, in Japan, France and the USA. The charismatic chanteuse, world renowned for her incinerating sonic guitar sound, is an acclaimed singer and songwriter. She will be joined onstage by her energetic backing band, so enigmatic, priests would be hard pressed to dispute their prophetic textures and texts:

DENIZ TEK (Radio Birdman, New Race, The Soul Movers) - US Aeromaster of Blazing Rock Guitar. JIM DICKSON (Radio Birdman, New Christs) - Bloody Big Boy Birdman Badass Bass. JOHN FENTON (Crow) - Maverick steam engine skins’ whipper Drummer. MASAMI KAWAGUCHI - (Miminokoto, LSD March, and Broomdusters) Blue Cheer-meets-Rallizes-cum-Nuggets-style fuzz zone.

THE MALADIES - Support band - Sydney Blues based Rock ‘n’ Roll Their notoriously wild live shows swing erratically from tender croon to demented howl - hot headed and pedal drunk, expect to see something intense and abrasive!.

MASAMI KAWAGUCHI - Special Solo performance - Tokyo Guest, Psychedelic Machine Gun Guitarist. Masami is touring Australia to promote the release of his own solo album: “The Mad Guitar Sings” on Black Petal Records.

The Australia-Japan Foundation recently lent its support to a collaborative project in Tokyo with Penny, Deniz and Japanese musicians, including Masami Kawaguchi, resulting in an album of new songs. The highly anticipated LP, with the legendary Radio Birdman guitarist and songwriter injecting his trademark into Penny’s tunes, is sure to be one for the music aficionado’s collection.

Penny Ikinger - "All woman and all business - the Australian singer-guitarist - a graduate of the Radio Birdman school of axe warfare - unveils a fetching line of balladry here: black-hearted folk songs draped in fuzz, topped with a dark baby-doll whisper ... imagine Nico channeling Sandy Denny in front of Blue Oyster Cult - and you're close." DAVID FRICKE, Senior Editor, Rolling Stone (USA)

THE MALADIES - "The Maladies distil a fine drop of rock from a sour mash...steep dynamics and erratic bursts of pure joyous noise...strangled guitar feedback, wounded soul vocals and stuck-in-the-mud swamp beats" Mess and Noise (Australia)

MASAMI KAWAGUCHI - " Machine gun guitar… stutters in a polyglot tongue drawing equally from Rory Gallagher, Jerry Garcia and Lou Reed.” – The Wire magazine (UK)

Do not miss this explosive opportunity that will burst across the stage for one night only.

This is an exciting one-off, never-to-be-repeated event.
