One of the reasons I will always play Irish and Bluegrass music, as well as Rock and Folk-fusion, is that there are so many great instrumentals, some are dance tunes and some aren't, in Irish, Bluegrass, and even Appalachian music.
Our "formula-music-between-the-commercials" radio and similar broadcast venues for our music undervalue instrumental music and overvalue words.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love (and write) great songs with great meanings and stories. But when you hear an instrumental, wordless, piece, no one is telling you what to think, dream, or feel. Music that makes you dance or sway in your seat, or invites your conscious and subconscious mind to paint its own pictures, is magical.
