Michael Benedetto say’s “I began playing the guitar when I was 15 yrs old, and began writing music the very same day.” His father had an old Gibson acoustic guitar lying around which one day became the first guitar Michael Benedetto would play. “I took it into my room and decided to learn, so I turned on the radio and began strumming along. My father heard my noise and knocked on the door. He showed me a riff or two to start me off, and from then, I went on to teach myself guitar basics and songwriting.” The band Rattrap Bumpkin was formed after friend Bryan Frasier bought a bass guitar. Like Michael’s father, Michael taught ..Bryan.. a few riffs to go along with the songs he had written, and ....Bryan.... would later take his own ability to the next level himself. In Need of a drummer, ....Bryan.... suggested his cousin Chris Stanis. After a jam session with just the three of them, it was obvious Chris was the man for the job. They went on to play their first gig at CBGB’s in NYC, and from then on nearly every original music venue in NYC that could hold their sound. Michael Benedetto began getting interested in music recording and friend Tom Dowd, a music engineer and blues band leader of “Buried in Blue” whom Michael worked as an audio assistant for, put Michael in the right direction for personal audio engineering. Michael Benedetto would later go on to record his first solo album “Within The Fire” a NY Folk album which emulates stories of his life and the lives of others. He also went on to record Rattrap Bumpkin’s first self titled album, a NY Rock album inspired by artists such as Tom Waits and The Pixies. Soon after the self release of their albums, Michael Benedetto left his job as an audio assistant and began full time Street Performing. “After over two years working as an audio engineer I began to get tired of sitting in front of a computer all day. So now I play all day underground and all night above” Both Michael Benedetto and Rattrap Bumpkin’s performances have put them in a class of their own. They are dedicated to what they do and have remained loyal to their music through out the years… and will continue to do so.
