Artomatic

Having a blast volunteering with Artomatic. You get to meet so many people and see what everybody is doing. It’s a massive, gorgeous picture. Nice view of the Potomac and the airport this year from 10th floor main stages and 7th floor music hang out rooms. Panels are coming along fine. Seems like it will be a nice platform to explore working in the digital world and all be in the same room together. We are starting to look for band posters this week to decorate the discussion rooms. That should be fun. See: http://www.eventbrite.com/org/2190352889

Post Carnahan's Thank You's

Loved the club. Definietly a place we would hang at if we lived closer. Will never forget the french fries on the steak salad. After a weekend of huge PA breakfasts everyday, I thought I would order a salad (haha) with the beer to be a little healthy. Now the steak was cooked to perfection. Having to have to eat through the french fries to get to the steak was an unexpected velvet elvis type of treat. Glorious. Thanks to our Jango friends for shouting back. Next time please come and say hello. That is what small places are about. Sound guy brought his own drums for bands to use that night. Sweet set too, according to Bill. And there was so much nervous energy in goodman Brown. How could you not like them? Conference folks really listened to pair us with them. So Kudos to them as well. Bill loves a place with hard cider on tap. I also am happy with a place that has Troeg's on tap. So Carnahan's.... until we meet again. All the best Jerry H Color School

Headed to MMC16

First foray out of town and headed to Millenium Music Conference #16 in Harrisburg PA. Approximately 600 bands will descend at the Radisson for three days of workshops and panels. Nighttimes are full of conference showcases spread within a 5 mile radius. Most every venue, bar, coffee shop participate. Small conferences are great because people are accessible. Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster areas all have cool scene with lots of bands. So it is cool to be invited to showcase and take part in things. Bands on the www.musicconference.net site sound really cool. It will be great to be in the same space as all the people. Can’t wait to see their shows as well. Iridescent, the new EP CD is being released at the conference. The CD is a collection of e-released singles plus a new song, Evermore. I bet from meeting other musicians we come back with at least as many CDs as we left with!!! Will keep you posted Jerry H Color School

Finally The Sudio!!

NEW COLOR SCHOOL SINGLE - Coming Soon To think that all the gigs we have gotten so far and all songs posted here were recorded live with a flipcam!! Pretty Low tech. Somehwta shameful. Somewhat alluring. June 13th we went into Sonic Sweets with engineer/ producer Scott Robinson, Drummer from Hotspur. We tracked five songs in an afternoon. The first should be available this July 4th weekend, (otherwise not yet known on this side of the Atlantic as National Tax Evasion Day). We gave Scott some grace time. Hell we have waited this long. And Hotspur was going to New York to record with some muckety mucks. Can't wait to hear that either frankly. Stay tuned to this blog and to our Face book group page for breaking news. Cheers Have a 5th on the 4th. OK not really, that would be projectile. Jerry H

PG Pool gig report

Playing PG County Pool in Mt Rainer was a blast. It was a great surprise to see some old friends and hang out with Rusty of WPFW. What a great community location. Great pool. Grass picnic area, Sand Volleyball court, Sand ping pong, barbecue and grills, catering, canned beer allowed, perfect late summer weather. Oh ad what can be said for the three year old mosh pit. It could not get more serious than that. Ken Moss and friends got us motivated with the opening set. Totally perfect. Thanks for all the love and comments. Especially like the suggestion that the only thing we need to get popular is a young chest protruding front man with attitude hair. Actually, I think we tried that …..20 years ago. Yep, now we are just dads with band pages. Ouch!! A new friend musician who has a great surf band called ReverbGalaxy said he heard every band he used to listen to back in the day in our set. That was awesome dude!!! Can’t wait to see your set again. Love surf rock!! Next set U.N. tootals

music and recipes

We had band practice last night which is always a great way to spend a weekend night really, if we are not gigging. We started working on three new songs. One song is a punk-a-billy song by Charles, the bass player, which is a blast to play. But thinking about practice the day after, I could not help but chuckle that the first 40 minutes or so comprised of the three of us trading recipes. What a band!! Bill even let me sample his slow cooked boneless short ribs with home made sauce. I rememeber brown sugar and chinese five spice. The other ingredients are a blur. Can't wait for next practice.

Satae and beer

There we were, our debutante ball. A coming out, so to speak, or maiden voyage of color school. We could not have had a better place, nor have done it with better friends around. I had not been to Bangkok Blues ( Falls Church, VA) in about seven years when i used to see my old guitar teacher/ band mate play straight ahead jazz there. Same menu. better chef. new owner, Better sound. First person I met was Even the sound dude. Instantly felt at home. This was not going to be the typical singer's songwriter night. His pleasant demeanor with swagger and the right touch of 'tude, let us know it was OK to rock too. Mr. Goad, the S.A.W. host was as peppy and care free as ever. He is so enthusiastic about all his performers and with good reason really. He does hand pick them. It was amazing who came out to route us on. Old High School friends, old messenger work buddies, also in bands, parents and kids, open mic musician friends, band mates from other bands, etc What a hoot and a holler. Definitely enough people came out to keep things drinking and chillin' long after. Set was short and sweet. I think we Popped it out. If anyone hit clams, it was yours truly, but no worries really. Now we know where those speed bumps are. LOL. Ah hell, for the price of admission, we get to say we can hit it the next time. Can't wait to stay in touch with all the new musicians friends we met, whose sets we enjoyed. Funny how the new school hits the ol' school. Hmmm. Must be Color School.

Gearing up for Old Town Theater

Can't believe how much fun the Old Town Theater is going to be. The Theater is a big place, with plenty of places to breath. The line up that night will have two drums, two percussions, two guitars, but only one damn bass, keyboards and mini-moog. What a crazy night. Old Neighborhood friends are coming out to play. Saul McCormick used to play at all the teenage keg parties and the girls would all look at his pecks as he hit the drums with such deliberation that drum heads would often snap. George Rice, also on percussions comes froma very circuitous route of so many parties. Only a trip in the wayback machine might tell where the first one was. Inclusion instead of exclusion. No Cover recession buster event. Lets get stimulated......in public. Thursday June 25th Folkadelic with Bobby The Peace Old Town Theater 815 1/2 King Street Alexandria, VA 22314 21+ to get in no cover w/1 drink minimum

Oh OH Alexandria

First, got to give kudos to Artomatic and Ft Reno concert series. Neighborhoods need more things like these. Each has a facebook group if you want to learn more about them. What is up with Alexandria. The town woke up again. Cool music places are either popping up like dyed carnations. They are all cool and focus to different feels. (219, O'Shaughnessy's, Old Town Theater, Art on the Avenue, Street Singing just about anywhere and more) Had a blast at O'shaughnessy's in the Matinee with 'tweens and 'rents of GW Middle School. Thanks to the folks at the O for arranging a smoke free event. Bartender arrived in the nick of time. We were sweating that the bartender wouldn't be there, so we had to try the taps to make sure we could be of service. We could have come through in a pinch. ;) Next is Artomatic and The old Town Theater. See you soon.

Peace Mural Gig

Tuesday January 13th Thank you Peace Action for putting on this show. Wide open art space. Colors not normally scene. Food and drink abound. Social Progression. The silent voice of war torn people expressed with a brush. What a pleasure being invited to play such a functionin the heart of the new art and design sector of Georgetown, complete with clean alleys boasting custom furniture and neon lit discos. The founding artists, Houng from Vietnam, gave an opening statement. people had coffins in which they buried the Patriot Act and Guantanamo. And after catered cocktails and an art visit, the dancing shoes came on and the suburban go-go continued. Pay more attention to traveling art. Often the voice goes , but you never know more of your own.
