Peeps,

29 years since John Lennon was swiped in horrid, bloody fashion from us. The guy could write a song; he wrote some of the biggest ever. We'll have to have a forum at some point on why "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is the greatest pop song EVER written.

"Xmas" is now on the listening page. Thanks for bugging me to post it.

Last night I had the rare and unbelievably sweet pleasure of playing a song to the someone I it wrote for. Almost a year ago in the murky-sorry depths known as Febuary, I was in a bar watching my good man Jimi Davies playing when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and this, I'm still not sure how to describe it, this presence, this captivating, gorgeous electric presence said "hey aren't you...? Something about the light coming from her face, her giddy laugh, her easy manner, just picked me up out of my Febuary hole and made me feel good. I went home and bammo-baby, I started writing: "When I saw Your Face." It popped out quick, by the next band rehearsal, we had learned it, made a rough recording and for whatever reason, there it lay for ten months. I had not seen much of my muse for a while. I ran into her at an open mike and we chatted as easily and amiably as ever. As we talked I remembered a big reason why I'd written the song for her: she had told me back in Feb. That she had a musician boyfreind of several years who had NEVER dedicated a song to her. I said "What a chump-ass!" The hot-wired experience I had meeting her, the prolonged slight by her man, hell, I HAD to write the girl a song! Last night I told her so, she was floored, insisted I play it then and there. I'm thinkin' "Oh Shit!" here we go again, trying to remember year old lyrics, chord changes, long story short. I got up onstage and said "This is a song for XXXXX OOOO" She lit up, I lit up (I botched the song, forgot a whole verse, didn't matter) everybody listened, liked it and what more can you ask for? It felt good to be a songwriter.

Next up our first songwriter interview with my man; Jay Turner. A soulful dude if ever there was one.

Sonwriters Circle of Death-Soundtrack show 12/9/09

Yo,

About a year ago, long-time Remnants fan Jeanie Clark approached me about using some band songs for the soundtrack of her feature length film "Smalltimore." It's a twisted romantic comedy Balmer' style Hon! So I say yes of course. Well it grew from one song to three to five to Eleven Goddamn Remnants Songs in her movie. I mean WHOA! And then this summer she had the premiere, time is marching and now next Wednesday night at The Charles Theater (no less) she is showing the film for it's DVD release. Jeanie asks us to play the after party the same night at The Windup Space right there a block north of The Charles. I say "yeah that's Super Cool" Of course because she has her shit together it was a month ago when she asked so, so I go to write the set list for our one hour midnight set and how many of the eleven songs I wrote, gave life to, weaned like Pups, coddled like babies do I remember being in the Flick a year later? Two. I'm so screwed, I mean I can't call her up and ask which ones they are, right? Seriously, could you? She'd be like "Tom, now that is funny, but why did you really call? What's up?" But really if it were just the two songs that were in it, well no prob' remembering that, but eleven? I blame her for putting so many of the goddamn things in there. How I am supposed to remember all that. There are blessings and curses to being very prolific. Come out next Wednesday to see me pull the layers of egg off my face.

Peace, TWB.

"Jesus Christ it's Christmas again" gotta be one of my favorite lines I ever wrote. The song is called "Xmas" it's on the AmFm (Annapolis area musicians charity) compilation Vol.2. It's a super rock-pop song about the perils of the modern-age Christmas. If you don't have a lot to give this year, this song is for you; in the end it boils down to: "Hey Jesus happy birthday; we try and live by all you had to say. How did the planet get this way? Shake hands with a stranger it's Christmas again" I mean, Right? The song is a gem for us, written in ten minutes (like the good ones almost always are) recorded in one day and voila'. Sure wish it had sold a million copies but ahhhhhhhhh, that's life baby. Talk to you in two days.

Tom Boynton's: "Songwriter's Circle Of Death" Blog.

Tom Boynton here.

In this space you'll find updates on the songwriting for the band. I also write with other people so, from time to time, I'll try to bring in other victims-eh-fellow writers to talk about the elusive muse. Speaking of which,I'm blessed with being fairly prolific. When people ask me, or when I ask other writers where or what the source is/comes from/ for the general inspiration to write; me and the people I ask about it are always cagey in our responses. The standard answer to where inspiration comes from is: "I don't know and I don't wanna know." It's like we'll jinx ourselves if we dare to talk about it' like it will all go away. Hilarious. We've been in the studio lately and the songs are flowing out of my head fast and furious. The next posting I'll begin going over the genesis of the songs from our last two recordings: "As Is" and "American Grit"

Peace. TWB
