It's Been A While

I haven't really been back to give my blogfor quite a while, I can't believe it's been over two months. So I thought I should come back and share what's been going on. THE ALBUM IS DONE! That's right, we're just waiting for the material to come back from the processing plant. It's amazing to think it took this long, but I write some pretty hard stuff. Magna Carta, I think, is a great album, and I really want to thank all my fans and everyone who has helped on the recording. I'm still going through practice, hoping to get everything organized. -Remember: THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

The Good News and The Bad

The best thing that could happen at this pint did happen. The recording process has finally stopped, all that's left is the editing and mastering, which I hope to go rather swiftly, as I have edited a great deal of music while still recording it. I first stepped into the recording studio a year ago, and now it's finally just about in the can. This has been a great project and I want to thank everyone for supporting my abilities and my career. The bad news, on the flip side, is that although the album is almost done, I won't be going to the Tin Pan South event in Nashville at the end of the month. I couldn't get booked in time, and I called one of the venues and they said that only the Tin Pan South organizers handle the booking during the event itself. I hope to still get some shows booked for the summer and still go to Nashville then. I really miss Nashville, I haven't been in almost four years. But at least by then I'll actually have something to sell so I'm not just walking around as this musician with no colateral. -Remember: THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

The Latest Info

Well, things have been pretty busy around here. I've been subbing everyday, doing my other job every night, and practicing for future concerts, not to mention saving up. The Tind Pan South festival will be in Nashville, TN at the end of next month and the beginning of April (just in time for my 25th birthday, March 31st!), so I'm really trying to be there. I haven't been to Nashville in almost four years, and I really want to go again. In May, the City Stages festival will be going on in Birmingham, AL. I don't think I'll be able to get booked at this point, but what I want to try and do is play at a few bars there and maybe attract some listeners out for an evening while enjoying their stay. I'll be back in the studio this weekend. Me and Mike have been editing and recording the final bits and pieces like you wouldn't believe, and Magna Carta may finally be ready. Please disregard all those pieces notions of "it'll be ready by..." It's been a long process, and I've learned a lot. I'm grateful for all the support of my current fans, my friends, and especially the great musicians who helped me in the process. It really has been a coming-of-age for me, I'm no longer the nerdy kid with long hair and a nmotebook full musical scores, but a man with a plan and rising following to match match. Thank You Remember: THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

An Update

Well, keep your fingers crossed, I got a message on My Space from this woman about the possibility of playing a show up in Pittsburgh in May, so let's hope this works out. After a month of moving into my apartment, I managed to get two hours of recording in, so the album is coming closer to completion. "Conical Structure" is now finished and "Swearing At The Wall" just needs two more verses. I'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, thank you fans, for all your support, I am now one of Reverb Nation's top 2000 or so hip hop artists worldwide (out of about 40,000 or so!).

This Week In The Life

I've been gone for a while so I thought I should tell everyone what's happening. Magan Carta is drawing nearer to its completion, and I'm moving some recording dates back due to my moving into my new apartment. If everything goes right, I'll be able to have a two bedroom so I can have both a bedroom and a music room. I'll be subbing at Durham School of the Arts quite a bit in the next few weeks. On a larger note I'm glad to know that the innauguration is coming up soon, it's great to know that after the long campaign, we have a great new President to be sworn in. But what's up in Minnesota? Franken apparently won, but Comeman still wants a recount. Can't it just be over so that the people of Minnesota can actually have a Senator? Aside from all else, I've been making some sketches to go with the song titles for when they're finished. Also, I've been thinking of offering a free download of another song called "Tar Heel Brook Melody" for members only. So if you're not a member yet, you better join to get a free download. -I Bid Everyone Goodbye For Now, keep Up The Good Work, Let All Your Friends Know... P.S. THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

Latest Progress

I headed back to the studio this weekend, put down some more material. "Gangsta Revisited" and "Alto Cumulus (Reprise)" are finished, and I put some new lyrics into "Conical Structure" and got some more keyboard into "Martian Bluegrass." Next time, I should be able to get the final guitar into "Swearing At The Wall," and put the final vocals down for that song, as well as "Conical Structure," and "Martian Bluegrass." I'll keep you fans posted, meanwhile, the MIDI file for "Mines On Ceres" is going through its final verification in TuneCore, which means in a short time, I will be able to get it available for download from Reverb Nation, so guys can finally have something to show you friends when you're out on your morning walks. -Later, Skippy Skip Remember, THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

The New Year

As 2008 draws to a close, I can only hope for better, and desire that the Dark Ages really are over. I hope to have an end to the Iraq War, which has done nothing but drain our surplus and mobilize anti-U.S. sentiment worldwide. I wish for healthier foods and fewer additives in the foods we eat (I just tried some of those detox foot patches, you wouldn't believe how much junk it pulled out!). I want our country to play a stronger role in ending the Climate Crisis and securing the future of our planet, for all life, not just human life. And finally, I'd like to see reality shows get cancelled, for crass commercial music to become less popular than ever, for illegal music downloaders to be struck by lightning, and for hihg-quality music to once again reign supreme. -Ciao, Skippy Skip

The State Of Things

I thought I should keep everyopne posted and let them know what's going on. Well, I'm going back to the studio this coming Saturday to try and tighten things up. I had some dates this past week that were pretty so-so at best, maybe I'll meet that special lady on New Year's Eve. I've been practicing a bunch of Dream Theater guitar licks, if you think my music is complicated, you should definitely check them out. Also, check out the website for my new fans, The Spanish Channel. And she doesn't have a site on hear, but check out my old friend Audrey Ryan on her site. It's getting late, but I hope everyone had a great Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and will have a Happy New Year! Hopefully I'll be getting my new apartment soon. -Ciao, Skippy Skip Remember, THE DARK AGES ARE OVER!

Tomorrow's Another Chance

Tomorrow I'll be back in the recording studio, I hope to make some good progress. I am still trying to get everything set up so that you can buy my songs online, but PayPal is being kind of a pain right now, hope to get it worked out pretty soon. I hope I can get some practice in so I can get the harmonica good and done for "Tar Heel Brook Melody," not to mention reworking the acoustic guitar in "Gangsta Revisited," and the keyboards in that song and "Martian Bluegrass." Funny how I came up with "Martian Bluegrass." In high school I liked this Beastie Boys song called "Super Disco Breakin'," and I joked that it sounded like electronic polka. Eventually that evolved into "Martian bluegrass," and I always figured I should wirte a song to go with it. Wish me luck, and if you know of any good bars to play in hear in NC, or elsewhere, let me know. -Ciao, Skippy Skip P.S. The Dark Ages ARE OVER!
