AJA: The Journey

In 2003 I got a tremendous inspiration that I should do more than just perform and produce my poems – that I must “transform my poems from the stage and the page into practical initiatives”. This was since the global issues, which my work highlights, were in fact escalating. The inspiration informed me that I needed to directly and personally experience the impact of war/conflict and poverty. It was a seemingly far-fetched and impossible idea, since I did not have the financial resources to embark on such a global mission. I nevertheless accepted the calling, and as it worked out, the “Universe” opened all the necessary doors for me to fulfil this mission. Below is a synopsis of The Journey:

Rio - Brazil: Spent time with street children; as well as with children living with HIV/AIDS; and went into the Rocinha Favela – arguably the biggest slum in Latin America.

Johannesburg - South Africa: Spent time with the street children in Hillbrow; went into the former apartheid townships of Alexandra and Soweto; and spent time with children living with HIV/AIDS.

Freetown – Sierra Leone: Just a few months after the war ended, I witnessed the devastation and suffering inflicted on men, women and children. It was shocking!!

Haiti: Experience the impact of people living in abject poverty.

Jamaica: Saw the impact of poverty in some of Kingston’s inner cities; and the consequences of political tribalism in Trenchtown and Rema.

Palestine: Witnessed the results/devastation of conflict.

My new CD – ‘Just Words’ presents works that were influenced/inspired by The Journey. In essence, the CD is a critique on the impact of war/conflict and poverty on humanity. It is available on-line through CD Baby: www.cdbaby.com/cd/aja3

Humans are one specie living together as One

Humans are so distracted by their own circumstances, and those of their particular space and where they were born or live, that they fail to see the collective purpose and responsibility of living on Earth.

This is reference to the fact that humans are one specie living together as One. The term race is insignificant and this needs to be corrected as a matter of urgency.

The technological advancements used as a yardstick for human advancement and development is thus grossly misleading, as poverty, hunger, war and abuses and atrocities at the most diabolical levels continue to plague human existence.

This is a grave symptom and indicates that through the Infinite Eyes of the Universe, Earth through its beings, is swirling through space out of sync with the Essence of Life. If this is not corrected as a matter of urgency, Earth will be slapped and splattered against the Wall of Time. www.cdbaby.com/cd/aja3
