Sister Bluebird Reviews The Popdogs' Debut Album "Cool Cats For Pop Dogs"!

Hi The Popdogs fans!

I just thought that I would let everyone know that The Popdogs have received their third review for their debut album from Anne-Marie Trace's Sister Bluebird. Sister Bluebird reviews the latest music releases in all genres of music from signed and unsigned music acts from across the world.

Sister Bluebird had this to say in their amazing review of The Popdogs' debut album Cool Cats For Pop Dogs:

"This CD should come with a warning sticker, the consistent string of hooks and powerpop stylings could easily overwhelm an amateur listener. Thankfully after a decade of attending International Pop Overthrow Liverpool I am able to listen to it in one sitting and come out the other side a little breathless but relatively unscathed. You really do have little time to catch your breath before being plunged into another aural adventure.

Any of the ten tracks could be held up as an example of how to craft a 3 minute pop song that, although brand new to the listener, already feels like an old friend. The Popdogs blend hints of classic REM with the ringing guitar sounds often found in 60s instrumentals for example the guitar on Wake You Baby wouldn’t be out of place on a Tornadoes track. The instrumental track Mild Mannered J is very Joe Meek in style, with a liberal smattering of Dick Dale and sounds like some lost classic that you find cropping up on Tarantino movie soundtracks.

Play it on the way to work on a rainy Monday to make it feel like a Friday afternoon in summertime."

Ice Cream Man Power Pop Reviews The Popdogs' "Cool Cats For Pop Dogs" Album!

Hi The Popdogs fans!

I just thought that I would let everyone know that The Popdogs have received their second review for their debut album from Rick 'N' Baker's Ice Cream Man Power Pop. Ice Cream Man Power Pop reviews the latest music releases in all genres of music from signed and unsigned music acts from across the world.

Ice Cream Man Power Pop had this to say in their amazing review of The Popdogs' debut album Cool Cats For Pop Dogs:

"Putting the Pop firmly in Power Pop by name and by virtue, The Popdogs lead us through 10 tracks over 30 minutes that will have you tapping anything to hand, singing along to catchy lyrics, punky power chords and if you are a cat person, you will certainly become a dog person!

This band, currently a two piece consisting of James Styring (Ex "Postcards From Places That Don't Exist") on vocals and Tim McKeating on guitar and backing vocals, hail from Lincoln in England and seem to have cracked the perfect pop song formula as this album displays. It is very hard to pick out a favourite track on this album, every track on the album could quite easily be released as a single, something that is pretty rare these days.

Who let the dogs out? Who cares? Thanks!

At present there is no official release date for the album as the "boarding kennels" all snap at the heel of The Popdogs, but as soon as this magnificent debut is made widely available, I wil be sure to let you know, this is one that you will not want to miss!

In the meantime, contact, follow, befriend, adopt a dog, like and love The Popdogs here: Facebook"

Our First Review - Minty and the Beeb Reviews Cool Cats For Pop Dogs!

Hi The Popdogs fans!

I just thought that I would let everyone know that The Popdogs have received their first review from Brian Barry's and Jacqui Dove's Minty and the Beeb - Spin It Or Bin It. Minty and the Beeb's Spin It Or Bin It reviews the latest music releases in all genres of music from signed and unsigned music acts from across the world.

Minty and the Beeb had this to say in their amazing review of The Popdogs' debut album Cool Cats For Pop Dogs:

"Our Verdict: A Fine Pedigree.

Do you remember when “Pop”… as in “Popular Music” meant something you and friends could actually enjoy openly?

This would be way before Simon Cowell destroyed the meaning of the words. Well prepare to have your faith restored in this particular genre. Because the debut album from The Popdogs, “Cool Cats For Pop Dogs” will do just that.

Clocking in at not much more than 30 minutes, the ten songs on the album will be the soundtrack to the quickest 30 minutes of your life!

From the power pop opening of KELLY’S ON till the harmony laden closer DANCIN' AGAIN, via an almost surf guitar instrumental in MILD MANNERED J, we are treated to reminders of just exactly what pop songs are meant to be… two and a half minutes of aural ecstasy.

Of course singer/songwriter James Styring is no stranger to great songs as anyone who had the good fortune to see or hear his last band, Postcards From Places That Don’t Exist can testify. His teaming up with guitarist Tim McKeating though, has added a definite radio friendliness to the instantly recognisable vocals provided by James.

Jangly guitars, great hooks and choruses, plus the added benefit of a unique and distinctive vocalist. What more can you look for in a classic POP album? Ten sparkling gems, highly recommended for anyone looking to have that faith in POPULAR MUSIC restored."
