The Cajon is Finished

I finished the Cajon last Sunday and Ive already got a song in mind for its first recording session, Privateering. Look for it coming to ReverbNation soon.

My first Cajón

I purchased all of the materials necessary to build my first cajón. The cajón is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late 18th century. It is basically a box with a sound hole (for mine, in the back) that you sit on and play the front surface with your hands, similar to bongos. Mine will include an adjustable snare inside to had additional percussive options. My cajón will also serve as a stool for playing guitar designed to be at the perfect height for playing the Mississippi stomp box. Stay tuned for more.

Mississippi Stomp Box (cont.)

Mike Gossett and I played for a bit yesterday exercising the stomp box with some distortion electric guitar. Sabra said she was proud I am her dad because of the noise we were making. Amped Mike's new acoustic (onboard electronics) as well and had a great time. Then, my good budy Gary Smith came over and we played some Croce and other selections. Gary took a great photo of the stomp box in action. Sounds like a bass drum. Added cymbals by placing a tambourine around my ankle.

Mississippi Stomp Box

Two weekends ago I built a Mississippi stomp box. Basically a resonate chamber with a microphone element inside and a foot pedal hammer hitting a padded carpet piece. Sounds just like a Bass drum when played through my Peavey KB/A-100 accoustic amp.

Single-string, Semi-hollow, Electrified, Resonator Diddley Bow

I play the Single-string Semi-hollow Body Resonator Diddley Bow (see in my photos) with a glass/ceramic slide and thumb pick. Made from junk for less than $10 (see below). Plays well and stays in tune. • Top pan is from an electric stove burner • Bottom pan is a pie plate/biscuit pan from my wife's collection • Tailpiece is from a door lock plate • Bridge is a slotted bolt through a kitchen drain stopper • Pickup is used from an old Ibanez electric guitar • Tuner is from my primary electric when I replaced it with a drop-D Slapshot tuner • Nut is a shortened bolt (head removed) cradled in rosewood • Instrument panel is an Altoids box (donated by my friend Daphne) • String is a used A string from my electric • All electronics, knobs, screws, bolts, nuts, and washers are from my junk box

FInally Connected to REVERBNATION

I finally connected with REVERBNATION for the primary reason of being able to share my music and videos with family and friends. I've just finished posting 81 of my songs and 6 videos. While not anywhere near commercial quality, you may still find some favorites. I hope you enjoy.
