SOULFIRE / Blog

Soulfire's August Update

Well, it’s been a while since our first and last blog post! We’re going to need to get a bit better at the social media side of life!

Back in May Soulfire went back into the studio to begin recording our debut album which will be titled Ghosts in the Mirror.

Soulfire have been recording at Floortom Studios with Steve Curtis, who is a great engineer and an all-round good egg. Soulfire have really enjoyed working with Steve and have also been embraced into the Curtis fold by his ex-wife Grainne who has been the band’s “mum” up at the studio.

The recording sessions went really well, with Lenny Webster coming in with his Nord keyboard set up and the gigantic, vintage Leslie speaker.

We have recorded 12 tracks in total – a mixture of heavy blues riffs, funky little numbers and some Americana thrown in for good measure. It's sounding pretty sweet!

Currently we’re popping back up and down the road to the studio when time and finances permit, in pursuit of the perfect mix. Mixing is a long process but Soulfire reckon it’s totally worth it!

In addition to mixing the album, Soulfire have been out and about playing gigs in Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Soulfire played The Moorings Bar in Aberdeen at the end of June and were blown away by the response we received. We weren’t too sure about the venue as none of us had ever been to see a band play there before. Well, I can tell you we were more than pleasantly surprised at what a quality venue it is – we’re returning there on the 27th October and are very much looking forward to playing there again.

In Glasgow we have so far played at The Box, The Stairway Club and twice at Maggie May’s. Two of the gigs in Glasgow have been part of the Surface Festival competition. Soulfire reached the semi-finals but were unlucky not to proceed through to the regional finals. We played a very good set and the judge loved us but the competition was heavily reliant on audience votes and unfortunately we weren’t able to bring a host of fans down to vote us through. We were disappointed with the results but nothing is ever wasted and we’ve learned some valuable lessons!

Soulfire are having a wee break from gigs in August to get some of the administration side of the band sorted out, work on a whole host of new songs and chip away at mixing the album.

Our next gig on the books is at the first CRAWWL festival – a beer festival in Inverurie. The festival will run on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th September at the Inverurie Loco Works and Soulfire will play on Saturday evening.

Soulfire in the Studio

Soulfire were in the studio again this weekend just passed and we are really excited! We made so much progress and are starting to feel really proud of the songs we are producing. We cannot wait for you guys to hear them!
