2012 Was A Great One!

It's that time again, time to start fresh.. a clean slate is fast approaching! But before I get all excited about the future, I wanted to take a minute to thank some very important people!!

Firstly, The Episode was exactly what I needed in the winter of '12.. I had literally been talking to one of my best friends about how much I needed to get my music out to the world the night before I saw the opportunity to be on The Episode - talk about perfect timing! After performing on the show and meeting their amazing crew, I finally worked up enough courage and confidence to hit the Sudbury music scene. I started playing my original tunes at the bars downtown, sometimes opening for other local musicians, and other times for bands out of town. I played a few charity events for the Greater City of Sudbury. The TedX event went over amazingly well - I still get emails from folks who saw me there.. Between a Rock and a Hard Place was also a great opportunity to play my songs on film, while meeting other musicians. And those are just the gigs I can think of off the top of my head on this early New Years Eve morn! In the summer I was blessed with the opportunity to be published in Simplified Living Magazine, and in We Live Up Here (book) in the fall.

I have met the most amazing musicians, photographers, videographers, friends, and fans in 2012. Thank YOU for supporting me and my dream. I truly couldn't do it without each and every one of you. I know 2013 is going to be the best year yet! Cheers - have a safe and happy New Year!!

My Magazine Debut!

Hey guys! As I'm sure most of you have seen/heard, last week something VERY uber cool and exciting happened... my first magazine debut!! I'm so honored and grateful for this opportunity! It's really surreal to see myself on glossy pages.. reading my own words.. reading about Justine Giles from an outside perspective.. this is UNREAL. Please send love and support to Simplified Living Magazine, they do amazing work. You can pick up a copy at Black Cat & Artists on Elgin (in Sudbury). There are many more locations, check them out here: http://simplifiedlivingmagazine.ca/subscriptions.html

Peace & Love!

What Music is to Me

Whenever I feel like resisting emotions I either sing a song I've written, or write a new one. Music helps me stay genuine, raw, transparent, and vulnerable (in a strong way). Music is how I feel things out. Music is how I face fears. Music is my outlet. Music is my tool. Music is my gift. Music is what connects me to so many people. Music helps me bare my soul.

Cole's show was a HUGE success!

Last night I had the honor of opening Cole's Memorial show with an acoustic set. I did a few originals (of course including "Cole's Song") and a ukulele cover of Blink 182's "Say it Ain't So". The audience sang Blink with me so loud and proud.. Which deeply moved me. Cole used to LOVE Blink 182.. and there's just something about a crowd singing together in harmony that you just can't explain. It was magical.

It was definitely a different venue to play, as the rest of the night was directed to punk/metal. But despite that fact, I was greeted with much love and respect. It amazes me that I received so many compliments from the people last night, and even today. I'm still stunned that I just did my thing and that somehow touched people. That's just amazing to me. So thank you to all who came out. I hope we made Cole proud!

Rest in peace.

The Episode

I'd like to thank everybody who came out to SRO on Thursday for my performance on "The Episode"! I had a WONDERFUL night it was SO fun. It was my first gig in about 2 years (wayyy too long over due). I had my hair and makeup done and it was just a blast. I honestly couldn't sleep that night.

I'll be sure to post the video when it airs! Stay tuned :)
