Let me just quickly introduce myself:
My name is Maaike a.k.a. DJ La Fruta Bomba, born and raised in Rotterdam (NL) and a huge timba fan. I was first introduced to latin music about 5 years ago, when I started singing in Holland’s most popular salsa band: Axioma. Pretty soon after that I started dancing salsa as well and as all addictions it started out as a hobby, but soon I got hooked and every spare minute I had was invested into music and dance. After about 2 years I was introduced to the Cuban style: I started listening more and more to Cuban Timba, Son and Rumba until I was completely sold! Eventually, when 2 of my friends went to Cuba at the same time, I offered to take over their weekly Cuban party for a few weeks until they got back, and that’s how and when my DJ carrier started. After my friends came back I decided to carry on as a DJ and pretty soon as Cuban music became more popular and better known in the Dutch salsa scene, so did I.
After working as a DJ for about 2 years now, I have had the chance to play at some great parties, working together with for example Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, Spanish Harlem Orquestra, grupo Suena Cubano, Contrabando, Grupo Danson etc. Hopefully I can continue for quite some time more, because the Cuban virus is one I just simply can’t seem to get rid of!
