362 Days Later...

I recall the first day of 2012 like it was yesterday. I had all my resolutions written down and was gung-ho to get going on them. By the end of the first week I was still fairly committed but life kept getting in the way and before I knew it, I was way off track and the mighty plan had failed.

I felt awful about myself for failing the plan and took that all the way in to February, March, April, May, June and by the time the summer hit I finally let it all go and inhaled the summer's cold beers, hikes, kayaking, songwriting, swimming, performing and beach picnics.

By the time autumn was upon us I felt rejuvenated and was ready for my busiest time of year and achieved great things.

Then winter settled in and the cold damp air kept me indoors mostly where I sipped red wine while cooking fine foods with friends and basked in the love of my family. The twinkling lights welcomed Christmas as my extended family blew in like a perfect storm bringing life to our home and then before I knew it, the year of 2012 was nearly at a close and I had not achieved a single resolution.

So, on this 362nd day of 2012, I am reflecting on all 361 days that have passed already and have concluded that there is nothing more sacred than just simply living life.

I look to bring in the new year with good folks and liquid cheer to celebrate not only the love from my fans, friends and family, but also my health and happiness.

Look out 2013! I'm planning on soaking up every single minute that's offered without any guilt, shame, judgement or expectation on myself and I'm going to let everything go so that I am a free moving vessel so that I can navigate to making the best music possible.

Grateful for it all without question - this is going to be fun!

Dear Everyone

I am addicted to everything music. Do not attempt to rehabilitate me. I am too far gone.

The Second Half of My Life

It always sounds odd to say this out loud but I really do feel like I'm heading in to the second half of my life.

I'm clearly not the same person I was 20 years ago and in fact, if I were to be face to face with her today, I would sit her down and give her a good talking to.

I have no regrets and I wouldn't change anything even if I could. However, I wouldn't want to ever go through it all again either.

So here I am ready to live the second half of my life, having learned all the things I needed to in order to truly embrace and appreciate each and every day.

I've raised three beautiful daughters nearly single handedly. I loved, lost and made music along the way. I'm wiser to the ways and have a very clear understanding of who I am, and I know what is important to me and what battles are worth fighting. I know when to hang on and when to let go and for the first time in my life, I'm not afraid of losing or making mistakes because I understand the value of the experience and the lessons within it all.

I'm embracing freedom again and am ready make a stand when I need to, hunker down when I have to, and jump and jive as often as possible.

The Digital Age

When I first started carving out my music career, there was very little in the way of education for artists and songwriters, so we were left to the 'trial and error' method of learning. It wasn't all that bad actually, because you really did learn that way, it's just that it took so darn long and you lost so much money to get to the point sometimes.

Well, this is not the case anymore. With the internet at our fingertips, we are able to delve in and learn quickly.

We are also gifted with the many different conferences and one off workshops that are presented all over the world.

So, for all young and eager bands, musicians, artists and songwriters out there, if you want to know about something, Google it. Research it. It's all there for you. And it's free.
