The Story Behind The Music: Going Up

[VIDEO] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqNq-s_M1yU

After a table of music industry people made a feeble attempt to coerce me into signing 3 large and blatantly not in my best interest contracts in Atlanta some years ago, threatening to blacklist me in the industry within one day of flying to NY to perform for a scheduled 8 major labels, I wrote this song Going Up. My plane touched back down in Miami only one day after this meeting took place where all who attended had taken home doggie bags from a loss of appetite at the well-known Vortex Bar and Grill in Little 5 Points ATL that I assure you was not due to the food… the food rocked! Back in my girlfriend at the time’s apartment 1611 West Ave Miami Beach, I sat with my guitar in the bedroom frustrated and feeling ripped in two searching for the chords that could pull out of me what I needed to release. What really bummed me out the most about not signing was that for 4 days I sat and worked the bridge of a really pretty song titled Pieces of You that Rob Thomas was writing and had given to the guitarist I was working with and myself allowing us to co-write it with him. Singing over Rob’s prior vocal ideas, I finished the bridge, everyone was happy with it and I was stoked for the opportunity. After some 15 – 20 minutes of strumming, I reached what appeared to be the state of diminishing returns which peaked my frustration. I pounded the semi-polished concrete floor with my right fist, got determined to springboard off of this classic and almost cliche music industry crash and burn and asked God to give me the goods for this new song. When I struck the pick down on the steel strings with feverish passion, the beginnings of a song titled Going Up rung out which were then followed by the opening lyrics of the first verse “Heaven help me ’cause I see exactly where I’m gonna be it’s just lately I’ve been sickly and I’d hate to lose my family come tomorrow there’ll be sorrow this is one they won’t swallow easily.” When you’re sick and tired of being so down, there’s only one way to go. Sincerely, SAS

Walk Boldly

Sprouting from the April FB "Love Letter" stems the (Walk Boldly) apparel line, while presenting one song at a time because your time is valuable, irreplaceable, of the essence and something I greatly appreciate.

Now introducing the first design from Scott Smith’s (Walk Boldly Apparel Line). An electric, compelling green for men and pink for girls (Dare To Be Found) logo printed on black/white tees and zippered black/white hoodies invites you to find the true you and to live life fully at your personal best which, in turn, will inspire others to as well. Because words can give or take lives, I have committed myself to making a positive difference in others through my music and now by designing motivational clothing to armor you for life. “Clothes don’t make you; they can, however make you feel powerful. So, whatever walk you’re from, walk boldly.”

Love, S.A.S
