Back to normal...

I have taken the "One Guitar" cover off my playlist here on RN, so it will also be pulled from FaceBook and MySpace as well. Apologies to anyone who didn't get a chance to hear it (you had a plenty of opportunities, didn't ya?!) or had it on a playlist (I only intended to post it for a short time). Not sure of the results, but hopefully I'll hear something soon about the charity drive. Thanks to all who gave a listen, and best of luck to everyone who participated in the One Guitar Initiative.

(D)One Guitar...

I'm happy to announce that I have recorded, submitted and posted my cover of Willie Nile's "One Guitar" for the One Guitar Initiative here on ReverbNation! All my blogs from the last few days seemed to be a lesson in sloth, but with six days to go I got it done! I'm pretty happy with the result, and I'm proud to be a part of a great drive for charity! Since my version of "One Guitar" is a cover, I will only have it posted on this page for a few days: It'll be up until July 30th... the entry deadline. So get a listen while you can, and check out Willie Nile's amazing original version: www.reverbnation.com/willienile

One Guitar...

There's nothing like waiting until the last freekin' second to do something, right?! Well, for those who know me, or read my posts, you know I am the Lord God King of procrastination... not a good trait to have. There's fashionably late then there's stupid crazy cram session at 4AM for a 7AM class that covers the the entire semester late: that is me late! However, I will get this done... and what I am ranting about getting done is my submission for the One Guitar initiative. The initiative is a charitable contest with several goals. One is to get more than 1500 recorded versions of Willie Nile's "One Guitar." This number will break a record! Most important is the charitable incentive: half of the proceeds from this go to the TJ Martell Foundation for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research and the participating bands get to choose a charity of their own to dispense the other half of the proceeds! Then there's the prospects of playing either the Warped, Mayhem or Country Throwdown Touring Festival! Pretty cool! Everyone wins one way or another! I am in the process of putting my cover of "One Guitar" together for submission to ReverbNation. I do have some time, but once again decided to pull an all nighter to get it done (which WILL happen!). Fear not Flooridians, I will prevail... at the very least, I will prevail at getting the song done and submitted! I'll give you deets as soon as I'm done and post a copy of the song for all to hear! Until then... stay Firsty, my friends!

Rally In the Alley (update)...

Check out this link! As promised, I've provided some additional info for ya'! Not too sure how much this is updated, but I do know that the events are happening this weekend (22-24 June), so peep the site for more info! http://www.facebook.com/RallyInTheAlley

Twenty Years...

June 20th... A milestone and a half! Today marks my twentieth wedding anniversary, as well as the twentieth anniversary of the original First Floor's last time together. Did I mention Dave was my best man?! Great times, great tunes... Seems like only yesterday.

Rally In the Alley...

Hey everyone... got a great opportunity for those who are willing to strip down (OK, get your minds out of the gutter!). The annual Yankee Doodle Days fest is going on next week in Grand Ledge, and once again they will be featuring Rally In the Alley: a chance for local talents to bear it all in an open mic setting. I'm missing it again this year, but I figured I'd post up a note about it for those interested in taking a drive to the Ledge. My cousin is running the gig and has posted on FaceBook about it. I'll get some particulars and pass them along. This is a great chance to show your stuff... your REAL stuff! Just you, a mic and your guitar! I hope to god I can actually be there next year, coz I keep missing this great opp to play and do an open mic performance. As I mentioned, I will post more details in a couple days. Stay tuned!

Twitter...

Um... OK, so I tried to sync ReverbNation with my Twitter account, but alas, confusion abounded a-plenty! I am trying to keep social networking as broad as possible, but there seems to be a lot of things I post on Twitter that have no real significance with First Floor, musically. However, I have begun to post tweets about my current painting series called "T-Square." If you are interested in engraving tiles on Twitter, just follow me: @FlrMgrSean. I will be posting about music in addition to my artwork, as well as other inane things!

Did I hear something?

It's been a few days since I posted anything, but believe it or not, I've gone into "sketch" mode for the next FF project. I've got a couple new bits that are in the "non-descript lyrics" phase: music's flowing, but the words are more mumbles, la's and hmm's than anything. Kicking around a couple titles: "The Spy Song," "Where Have You Been All My Life?" (no, NOT a love song!). I've also been pitching the idea of doing a cover of AC/DC's classic "Have A Drink On Me," but re-working it to fit the format I'm toiling in at the moment. So far the response to the idea has been good. Hope to get rolling on basic construction fairly soon!

Open Mic...

With the bevy of songs I've been sitting on, no "gigging" band to play them out with and all the other trappings, I've been kicking around the idea of doing some open mics locally. A mate of mine says doing an open mic tests you, your songs and your determination. I really want to put together a full night of solo acoustic work (doing both covers as well as originals), but I'd like to test the waters first. Anyone got suggestions on the best way to go about doing open mic? For all the years I've played out and all the places I've been, I have never done an open mic, nor have I ever been to one... any advice?

Stuff & Nonsense...

Well, here goes another blog full of useless tidbits and stuff no one's reading. I don't care! I feel some sort of validation and who knows... maybe someone give a damn. I've been trying to resist the temptation to work on anything new, but I'm weak and have started to succumb to the muse once again. I've got a couple new riffs in the works that sound pretty sweet, and I'm balancing the idea of doing a two-fold recording for the next FF project. So far, I've been exploring the prospect of a dub-step sound, but will need time to work out the tones and structures. On the flip side, I've decided to shift back to a more minimal (but not minimalist) sound, which is what I'd originally planned for Real Country Dark (Joy Division, Editors anyone?). Another idea was provide BOTH versions, making one the "official" and the other the "remixed." I'm still debating. On the subject of Real Country Dark, I have been contemplating a complete overhaul/ strip-down of RCD: currently working under the titles of Remix Country Dark or Restructured Country Dark. Why do this you ask? Well, because I want to revisit the album... I missed a few spots, side-stepped a few details and although I do like the result, I don't LOVE it. So, I figured what the hell, do a little retouch, fix some issues and come away with a sense of accomplishment. Or at least FEEL like I did something!
