Italy’s Faust brought in the big dogs for the recording of From Glory to Infinity. Luckily, the musical aspects of said disc far exceed the visual ones (i.e. the cartoon cover of the amply bosomed nun). Feast your eyes on this lineup and you will understand why the musicianship on the album is top notch: Vocalist/guitarist Aleister (Ancient), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Autopsy, Sadus, Death, Iced Earth, etc.), drummer Darek “Daray” Brzozowski (Dimmu Borgir, Vader, Vesania), guitarist Luca Princiotta (Doro, Blaze Bayley, Clairvoyants), and guitarist Ghiulz (Profantum, Obscurity). Not too shabby, eh?
So you figured it is a good bet that the playing on From Glory to Infinity does not suck. You figured right. But what about the songwriting? It is better than average and if one views this more as a series of melodic death metal instrumentals that just happen to include growls with indistinct patterns then you are less apt to be disappointed. That probably sounds worse than it was meant. The point is that these compositions are rife with soaring melodic leads, triumphant galloping rhythms that at times border on trad-metal, the sinewy bass lines of DiGiorgio, and beautiful sections of acoustic layers underneath breathtaking leads. Being so smitten with the instrumentation makes the vocals seem like an afterthought, which is not so much a criticism of the throat-work (it is like a mid-range, throatier Luc Lemay), as a recognition of the compositional acumen involved. “Wet Veils” and the aptly titled “Carnal Beatitude” are two shining examples. The main melody of “Golden Wine Countess” is noteworthy as well. It is worth mentioning again that DiGiorgio’s playing throughout is fantastic.
In fact, each cut is a dazzling display of brilliant musicianship and melodic sensibility. Even with those high compliments, the album becomes marginally redundant after a while and not quite as memorable as it could be. These are minor criticism though, as From Glory to Infinity is a fine work that does not sound quite like anything else out there right now, the occasional (vague) nods to melodic tech-death acts like Gorod and Anata notwithstanding. Definitely worth checking out.

FAUST From Glory To Infinity PR
Italy's Faust finally brings forth their debut full length, after having been around since 1992 (with some time off here and there). Band founder/frontman Aleister has recruited an all star caliber troupe to play on this disc, including bass master Steve DiGiorgio and super drummer Daray. Together with guitarists Ghiulz Borroni and Luca Princiotta, they form the incarnation of Faust that recorded From Glory To Infinity.
Faust is all about brutally technical death metal. Right from the first track ("Purple Children"), the band blends a monstrously brutal attack with all sorts of insane musicianship - from slick guitar solos and rolling bass lines to some downright insane drumming. All of this meshes together seamlessly, unlike many of the newer technical deathcore type bands out there now that always sound as if their songs are chopped to pieces in order to fit some crazy ass guitar noodling somewhere that it doesn't belong. Here, Faust sticks all the guitar calisthenics in the proper places where they enhance the song, not detract from it. "Golden Wine Countess" is a great example of all of this. From the froggy bass sound at the beginning, through the heavy verses, the brief bit of acoustic guitar layered in the middle, and to the stereo swapping guitar melody bits towards the last half of the song (not to mention the soaring solos that follow), the song just flows perfectly from one part to another. "Pig God Dog" is an instrumental track, and everyone gets to stretch their instruments as far as they can go here - not that they don't throughout the disc, but this song they just let loose for most of it.
This disc is absolutely mandatory for fans of Necrophagist, Morbid Angel, Death, and pretty much anyone that likes really good technical death metal. Faust has the style down perfectly, and this disc shows just that.

Faust From Glory to Infinity PR Faust's From Glory to Infinity may take a moment of two to get used to but once you get there it is a perfect storm of Black Metal brutality and bestial sacrilege. Staying true to their Black Metal roots there is no love lost for the tenants of organized religion. What sets Faust apart from the rest of the horde is their approach to a religion free world. Instead of bludgeoning you with claims of infinite evil and pledges to dark masters Faust instead infuses their sound with horror. Dragging you through the shit and mud to the chaos of the abyss. No where is that more apparent than the track Holy Hole. A song that is a thought provoking as it is brutal. Filled with the gore of busted hymens, piss, blood and cum. It can be easy to dismiss Faust as just another Black Metal gore band. But if you peek behind the lyrics there is a lot more going on than that. They are using these images to get you to think of a world free of the confines of religion. Almost saying hey you wouldn't eat shit and blood just cause some old dudes tell you to right? So why do you hate, kill etc for some dudes with an old book? In there lies what makes Faust awesome the gore is a tool to draw you in and hopefully bring you a bigger message. Still some people cant get past the whole scat, piss blood thing. And for those that cant you'll be happy to know that Faust is just as brilliant musically as they are bloody. You would have to be an enemy of music not to love their thick heavy riff and catchy hooks. Instead of assigning roles to the band membersAleister and Ghiluz take turns on solos. Their styles both conflicting and complementing each other to give the album more depth and texture. As they switch from power metal inspired licks to black metal savages. In From Glory to Infinity Faust have created a perfect storm of intellectual brutality that is as interesting as it is entertaining.

[8/10] Faust is guided by former Ancient touring guitarist Aleister, evoking a more finesse and melodically-driven Atheist, with nods to Quo Vadis on the back end.
The bulk of From Glory To Infinity is dynamic across the board, buoyed by the always-distinguishable bass work of Steve DiGiorgio, whose fretless skill(z) are front and center on opener “Purple Children” and the blinding “Sentimental Worship.” There is a sharp degree of technicality to a lot of these songs and it doesn’t interfere with the gripping and memorable melodies presented on “Wet Veils,” which is arguably the best song of the bunch.
Keep a keen ear to the solos, as they’re totally classy and well-performed. It’s not everyday we get to say such a thing given the over-zealous nature of many lead guitarists nowadays, but Aleister and fellow guitarist Ghuiz have more than a fair share of melodically competent solos that help off-set the technical ecstasy of the nine songs on display.
As mentioned above, hats off to P for another great snag. Melodic death metal is a saturated field, one that has continued to swell in spite of its dwindling creative base. Therefore, when a band like Faust and an album like From Glory to Infinity happen to hit our mailbox, we’re game. Very recommended.

FAUST was born back in 1992 by brainchild singer & guitarist Aliester. This band features some musicians who have played with DORO, BLAZE, CLAIRVOYANTS, PROFANATUM, SADUS, DEATH, ICED EARTH, TESTAMENT, DIMMU BORGIR, VESANIA & NEOLITHIC. The band plays in the original tradition of classic Death Metal. The music definitely has an old school vibe to it, that blends in some Thrash Metal elements. Their sound is from the birth days of Death Metal. There are some more atmospheric & dark parts that have some Black Metal elements as well. The vocals are a mid ranged Death growl style that has a thick sluggish sound. These guys have let all their talents shine in the crafting of this great release. This is a definite must for all fans of the early 90's Death Metal scene! Horns raised high to this killer album!

Like awaking from a nightmare that started as a dream that started as a nightmare, “From Glory To Infinity” sets you up for a ride like no other! Wicked throat, six string beheader and mastermind behind Faust, Aleister pulls out one hell of an innovative and soul crushing album here. And when he’s aided by the likes of guitarist Ghiulz Borroni (ex-Profanatum), drummer Daray (Dimmu Borgir), session guitarist Luca Princiotta (Doro) and bassist extraordinaire Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Testament, Dragnlord, and countless others), you couldn’t possibly expect anything less than brilliance or a possible forced evolution in death metal! And you’re right! Harsh yet ethereal melodies tie brilliantly to the sudden beautiful acoustic breaks and brutal messages of anti-Christian lore that are smeared in every nook and cranny of this sinfully awesome album! And what album with a big titted nun on the cover wouldn’t be complete without a song about a satiric take on the virgin mother (Holy Hole)? Classic!
Overall: If you’re a fan of death metal (and I know you are) I strongly consider picking up this album. The future of all things death metal may very well stem from “From Glory To Infinity”! - Typhon

FAUST “From Glory To Infinity” 2009 CD SCP
Hm, this is always interesting listen to bands which line-up consists with known musicians (like all-stars), and this band was interesting as there in line up next musicians: from ANCIENT, PROFANATUM, SADUS/DEATH/TESTAMENT/ICED EARTH, VADER/VESANIA/DIMMU BORGIR, DORO/BLAZE BAYLEY… Looking to the line-up you can imagine what the stuff could be there. Originally FAUST was formed back in the year of 1993, but this is first album which was released by label (for USA also released by Pr, and Vinyl version by US Nr). Musically here's technical death metal, with huge melodic carcass… As you can imagine, all made on very high level, music is top technical and catching; you will not be boring by one-two rhythms and suck melodies, no, you will be just pleased by as I said – technical performance, and of course music is filled with really good tempo-changes and slowdowns, with truly great guitar solos (which sometimes make music a bit progressive in sounding). Vocals are growls here, and it looks good with all its content. Mix and mastering were made by J. Urteaga of VILE, and I have to say – FAUST music is sometimes reminded about those Americans thx same high technical skills. All in al we have not very original but very impressing stuff, where catching and pressing brutality was mixed with melodic sounds and even with fresh acoustic parts from time to time! If you like technical and interesting stuff – don't miss FAUST, as this band did very decent job! 4+..5
