Dance music veterans Culture Beat are back with a new release. Entitled "Your Love", it has the passion and energy of the "old" Culture Beat -- when Tania Evans was the singer and Doug Laurent was involved in the production.
It took me a long time to get used to vocalist Jacky Sangster. I guess she just has to grow on you. I still say nobody will replace Tania (or rapper Jay Supreme), but Jacky's vocals have improved with time.
I had trouble getting into everything released by CB between 1998 and 2004. Those performances lacked the sincerity and emotion of the "true" Culture Beat; almost like the "real" Culture Beat went on strike and replacement producers came in.
Now Culture Beat has gotten their groove back. Let us hope that they continue to produce records with consistent style and emotion, building up to a full-length release. If they could produce some tracks in the Eurodance style, and/or remixes, they would be sure to please their die-hard fans, but I suppose beggars cannot be choosers. (My fingers are crossed).
