What is believed to be the world's oldest recording was made by French inventor, Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville when he recorded his daughter singing on a "phonautograph". The device engraved sound waves onto a sheet of paper blackened by the smoke of an oil lamp 17 years before Thomas Edison invented his phonograph.

The Rolling Stones' guitarist, Ron Wood was exploring islands near Rio de Janeiro in a small boat when one of the engines caught fire. He, along with ten other passengers were rescued when nearby journalists came to their aid.

Chicago became the first American Rock group to perform at Carnegie Hall. They played six sold out shows and recorded the concerts for the four-record album, "Chicago at Carnegie Hall", which became their third LP to make the top 5 in the US.

Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards issued a statement that said he was joking when he told NME magazine that the strangest thing he ever snorted was his father's ashes. "It was an off-the-cuff remark, a joke and it is not true. File under April Fools' joke".
