I am still using my MBP 16 i9 16Gb 512Gb in 2026, but how does it compare to the newest models win or mac from Computex, and why do reviewers not compare older laptops with the new ones? I found out that my stuff still works very well, even without AI or NPU. My 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro (Intel i9) ( I have now 3 of them) was one of the highest-end laptops of its era. Even in 2026, it remains a very capable machine for many professional workloads: (the best one I have has 64Gb RAM a 4TB SSD and a Radeon Pro 5500m 8gb). Back to my daily workflow. Audio production (Logic Pro, FL Studio, Reaper) some LibreOffice work Web browsing Photo editing Moderate video editing Running older Windows software through Boot Camp. All flawless. No extreme fan noise, I made a profile with TG Pro and all heat issues are easily fixed for 8 euro! For music production especially, the machine is often limited more by RAM and storage than by raw CPU speed. My Radeon Pro 5500M/5600M 8GB is still useful. AI/NPU here's the important question: Do you actually use those features? the majority of users don't. For my primary applications like FL Studio, Logic Pro, Maschine, Kontakt, and traditional productivity software, an NPU often contributes almost nothing to your daily experience! The iUS tech industry often acts as if every year brings a revolution. But In reality: Browsing A webpage that loaded in 0.8 seconds on my i9, may load in 0.4 seconds on an M5.

In some cases better battery life, my i9 comes to 11 hours on a battery, when I am not gaming! So in fact it is all about human perception Going from: Pentium 4 → Core 2 Duo that was a transformative. Going from: Core i9-9980HK → M5 Pro is much less dramatic for many tasks. And yes the latter is faster in loading programs, sppedometer, benchmarks, but ask yourself. Did I buy a new laptop because I needed the extra performance, or was my old laptop a little bit slower? Was it worth the extra 2000 euro? So the next question might be, why do reviewers rarely compare old laptops with the new ones. There are several reasons. 1. Manufacturers don't want it Laptop companies want comparisons like: M5 vs M4 RTX 5080 vs RTX 4070 They don't want: "Your 7-year-old laptop is still fine." Because that doesn't sell new hardware. 2. Benchmark culture Many reviews focus on: Geekbench Cinebench AI TOPS instead of asking: Can this 2019 laptop still edit video well? Can it still run Logic Pro for a professional? Mine gets to 120 tracks! Can it still browse smoothly? Those practical questions often matter more.

So my 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro is still a very capable machine in 2026, especially because: I don't need local AI processing for my music. 16GB RAM isn't limiting my projects yet. The max I ever used was 20 tracks with 4 plugins on each track, and I still had overhead! No crackling or dropouts. My projects already run smoothly and I am not waiting on renders all day( for that I have a Dual Xeon 5690V4 56core 256Gb EEC RAM HP Z840 wokstation with a Titan V ,10TB nvme SSD storage) , the practical improvement from a modern laptop would be complete bullshit for me. I work with RME babyface, Motu Ultralite MK4 , and a Apogee Duet II on my iPad Pro12.9 1TB. So keep you money in your pocket and invest in useful plugins, or a better audio interface. Or a midi keyboard. Marketing bullshit from Big tech is only meant to get your money without any really important benefits for your music or creativity. IMHO, for your daily workflow, when you are a musician or producer like me, get a MBP i9, iPad Pro 2018, for cheap, you will not regret it for your band! Pi-Qui
