Hip-hop duo takes over Columbus hotspot for the a crowd of local fans
COLUMBUS, OHIO - National recording artist, Dead Prez, made a newsworthy appearance at Columbus’ Skully’s bar giving the local patrons an experience to remember. Recognized largely for their 2000 smash hit entitled Hip-Hop which served as a political ode to hip-hop, was the most successful track of their career. Dead Prez’s presence was undoubtedly an honor for the amped crowd there to witness the over-the-top performance the group has become known for putting on time and again.
Dead Prez, which is comprised of MC’s M1 and Stickman, collaborated with Columbus’ own, D.O.B. Entertainment CEO, Khil Datta, who is actively working on his debut mixtape, “No Excuses Only Rewards.” In collaboration with Money and Memories Entertainment, D.O.B. entertainment has been throwing hip hop events in the Columbus area frequently, revitalizing the Columbus hip hop scene. From bringing back old school legends Dead Prez and featuring them on the street single to his upcoming mix tape, Khil has proven to be an artist to watch in 2011. Together, these talented artists birthed See in Life, a track with a focus on going the extra mile while simultaneously becoming your biggest competition and worst enemy along the way. With a rugged Midwest feel and Arizona native producer KA on deck, this collab may very well be the one to place the
new-age Columbus hip-hop community on the map for 2011.
“See in Life portrays how everyone has a duel personality; their motivated side and their slacker side. As the song progresses, each artist raps about killing their weaker side off. As the hardworking side emerges, you realize that only you can choose what you see in life,” stated Khil, D.O.B. Entertainment CEO. “The no [expletive] only grind mentality of the song is shown in how each rapper describes the obstacles they have to overcome in order for their stronger side to emerge. That concept is carried over throughout Khil's entire mixtape, 'No Excuses, Only Rewards'. The audience can expect something different on every song, while at the same time getting equally inspired by each and every track. Khil displays his ability to change the tempo of his flow over an arsenal of beats from different genres. The project features a variety of young up-and-coming producers while also getting feature verses some heavy hitters in the game.”
Khil’s debut solo mixtape, "No Excuses, Only Rewards" will be released in early 2011. The much anticipated project will feature Dead Prez, Philadelphia-native rapper, Freeway who is best known for his track with Jay-Z entitled 8 Miles and Running as featured on the ‘8 Mile’ motion picture soundtrack. Project Pat, who is most recognized for his high-profile appearance on Three 6 Mafia's Sippin’ on Some Syrup, will also be amongst the featured artists.
