Biography:

Kindergarten rivals-turned-bandmates River Donaghey and Jason Waldrip began playing guitar together in fifth grade. Taking their name from from the movie The Great Escape starring Steve McQueen, the band had a full lineup and a couple of shows under their belts before high school began. They have released four proper albums and a handful of EP's in their five years together, and have headlined shows at the WOW Hall and played at the Eugene Celebration, the District, Sam Bond's Garage, and the Black Forest, among other venues. Now, fresh out of high school, the Tunnel Kings have evolved into a tight band, pushing the definitions of indie rock.

Press:

“The Tunnel Kings... are all still in high school, but wrote their own material-- and it wasn't too bad, either... Both 50 Foot [Wave] and [my band, Mission of] Burma found them very charming, and actually quite talented.”
Roger Miller (Mission of Burma) - Matador Website

“The Tunnel Kings are a politically-conscious band with a dance factor. The band plays with an angsty lo-fi sound on 'Smoke Like Rainclouds' while Donaghey belts his Bright Eyes-like vocals, which demand to be in the forefront of the song. More danceable is 'New Freedom Fighter['s Manual],'but it's just as political and self-aware. The song will put the worn dance floor to work.”
Amanda Burhop - Eugene Weekly

“The Tunnel Kings are shockingly good for their age. When they first came into my studio a few years ago I saw a potentially great band... after high school. Yet the last recording we did together proved them further along than that. Not out of high school and already writing tight songs that are executed live. It makes me jealous. It'd do you well to give them a listen.”
Thaddeus Moore - Owner of Sprout City Studios

“The Tunnel Kings move more rapidly than just about any band I've seen. By the time these kids can drive, vote, & drink legally, they'll be among the best we've seen around here. Sonically intense and aggressive. Sure to be at the front edge of the next rock & roll tsunami wave.”
John Shipe - Local Musician

“Never heard of them... Please stop calling.”
