Biography:

They say of her that she is the heiress of the “Queen of Fado”, Amália Rodrigues. Others call her “the voice of Portugal”.

Now we have her on the Way of Music, celebrating the two decades of her music career with her new release, Momentos, a double album with which Dulce Pontes goes back to her roots and to the stage to offer us a very special present: Both new and classic songs and a show by the same name as this recording.

Dulce Pontes offers us intimate moments, frantic moments and unexpected ones, where the Portuguese tradition and sounds from other latitudes embrace each other in a collection of those special moments lived on stages throughout all this time. Unique, unrepeatable moments which hark back to 1991, when she won the National Song Festival of her country, and then that very year she represented Portugal at the Eurovision festival, where she won the award to the best performer. It was the first time Europe heard Dulce Pontes' voice.

From that instant, Dulce Pontes has worked to restore traditional fado, which was considered back then as obsolete. With her work, she has managed to reinvent what seemed to be dead, without neglecting other genres and sounds from all over the world, collaborating with one of the most respected composers of the XX century, Ennio Morricone, besides other diverse and renowned artists, such as Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, Brazilian artists Simone and Caetano Veloso or Spanish cantaora Estrella Morente, among many others.
Now, Dulce Pontes brings us to the Way of Music the most passionate moments of a two-decade career.

Press:

“When Dulce Pontes started a song with the words “meu amor” (“my love”) at Carnegie Hall on Thursday night, she flooded them with emotion: longing, seductiveness, bravado, desperation, strength. It was quintessential Portuguese fado singing, with long-breathed swoops and tempestuous dynamic surges, simultaneously abandoned and refined. Ms. Pontes has an extraordinary voice: tangy and sympathetic, delicate and searing, extending upward to an airborne soprano.”
Jon Pareles - The New York Times
