Biography:

Born in Kathmandu, Nepal and now based in Toronto, Canada, Astha is an indie alternative pop singer/songwriter. The charismatic singer comes to the stage with an organic sound backed by her acoustic guitar and carefully crafted minimalistic beats. Astha’s music is melodic, direct and emotional, with lyrics that attempt to explore the depths of the human psyche: sprit, mind and emotions. Her music echoes influences from various genres such as pop, folk and R&B and draws inspiration from the work of forward thinking songwriters like Jhene Aiko, Yuna, Ben Harper, John Mayer, Daniel Caesar, Alina Baraz and Wafia, to name a few. Astha—her name itself means “faith,” and her faith is in music.

Press:

“Toronto-based artist Astha choreographically captures the exhaustion and lonely corners of unconditional love in her new video “More.” The video shows Astha with a lover who face opposite directions, showcasing the emotional distance within the physical proximity between them. Split by interludes of stunning choreography, “More” captures the dark loneliness and beauty that comes with relationships:”
Aupium

“Directed by Saint, the somber visual shows Astha going through the motions with her stoic love interest as she gives a soul-stirring performance of “More” that explores the highs and lows of love.”
The Dope Show

“If you enjoy sounds from Sabrina Claudio, Mahalia, Ella Mai and Alina Baraz you'll love this new rupturing single from singer-songwriter Astha "More."”
Jia McMillan Shipley - Ikonic Music Blog

“Toronto-based, Kathmandu-born Astha's soulful new single "More" marries warm pop sensibilities with thoughtful, emotion-laden lyrics. "The verses represent the struggles of a relationship; of feeling frustrated, lonely and misunderstood," she explains to CH, "While the brighter choruses represent the calm after the storm, where your love for the person helps you put all differences aside." From start to finish, it's a success. The track will appear on Astha's forthcoming EP, Muse.”
Josh Rubin - Cool Hunting

““She is a gifted singer with a fairly versatile voice. She sounds as good singing ballads over acoustic guitar in the title track as she does while packing heavy pop singles” – Y! Magazine - Nepal ”
Y! Magazine - Nepal

““Finding space here for her sheer talent and passion for music, Astha is probably the freshest sound to hit the Nepali music industry.””
Wave Magazine, Nepal

““Astha has that rare gleaming charm to herself which allures even grown up men to listen to her pretty yet powerful voice singing of teenage angst and puppy love lost.” ”
Republica Newspaper -Nepal
